So, re the clubs that didn't enter this year. There are some that are just too small to field any type of team (eg SOFA), but there are a lot from Scotland. To state the blindingly obvious, Scotland is special. There are a lot more clubs, and the travel times are a lot greater just to get to the heat.

So I suggest Scotland should have two or possibly more heats, leading to a Scottish Compass Sport Cup/Trophy final (though the name might be different). Say a Highland heat and a central belt/Southern Uplands heat. The trophy/cup winners of the Scottish final gets first option to go through to the national final (just like now).

What do the Scots think? Would that make non-participating clubs more interested in the competition?

You mean instead of trying to cajole poeple into attending one heat, it'd be two?? Dont think that would be met with much enthusiasm. I'd say focus the energy on making the competition as special as it can eb - then folk will want to come. It really ought to be a focus for a good healthy club to want to get to the final.

I think the main issue is Scots travelling to the final, which seems to be pretty far south most of the time. We at Clyde always try and make an effort to go and have done fairly well in recent years. Parents of one of our members have been known to have 24 of us staying in their house!

I was however surprised not to see an entry from ESOC or INT this year. The heat was only an hour and a half from Edinburgh so not particularly far. I would imagine they decided they weren't going to travel to the final so no point in competing in the heats.

Yes, 2013 was in Forest of Dean, but before that was Teviothead (RR), Longshaw (DVO) and Burbage (SYO). This year Long Valley (SN) and next year The Lakes so seems like a good spread to me.

We didn't get a full team of 25 to Teviothead as its a long way from Bristol, but still went up to compete and made a weekend of it

It might be necessary for several clubs to get together to organise such a big event but it might provide the quality of terrain needed for a good level A event. It would also allow the Scottish clubs a much shorter journey to the final ( although I do realise that it still could be quite long)

I think you could still be considered 'British' but perhaps not so 'Great'.

Date and location isn't particularly bad - it has to be somewhere and somewhen and Long Valley is an OK area and "just" a flight away.

I'm sure Moravian or Invoc would be happy to host the CSC final in a top class forest on the Moray Coast area.

Its a shame if clubs haven't entered this year as they don't think they could be present at the final. My club has reached the final for the first time in 23 years but over that period there has been perhaps only one year when we didn't enter, sometimes even if it meant that we only filled two cars. So each year the committee and in particular the various club captains have worked hard to ensure that the club is represented and the competition supported even if we knew we had no chance.
