Nice event. Thanks. I think you need to put 50p in your server meter.

Congratulations to SN (Cup) and WIM (Trophy) for winning at the New Forest event. And weren't the weather gods kind to us?

Why on earth were LOC in the YHOA heat when the NWOA heat was just down the motorway?
The NWOA heat had only 2 NW teams with 2 teams from the Midlands. Hardly a regional heat! It seems very strange to have 3 teams from the 2013 final together with SYO (recent winners for many years) in the same heat.

There is no such thing as a regional heat. Clubs can choose which heat they would like to take part in (but they won't necessarily get their first choice). BL for example chose to go to the heat held by FVO in Scotland.Blonde bombshell wrote:Why on earth were LOC in the YHOA heat when the NWOA heat was just down the motorway?

SWOA heat only had 2 clubs in the Cup. NGOC came all the way up to the New Forest. Sarum, who are very close to the New Forest went al the wy down to Devon. Not sure how these groupings were decided!

Re: Compass Sport Cup & Trophy 2014
Lakeland put down its regional NWOA heat first and YHOA round second on its CSC entry form.
Due to neither EMOA nor EAOA hosting a regional round, and the NWOA having a numbers limit, then I believe DVO & NOC were allocated NWOA round and Lakeland bumped to YHOA. It was a similar distance but an extra 30 mins time to give the club over 2 hours travelling.
Needless to say we struggled to convince all members that the trip would be worthwhile, and combined with a lot of juniors going sick we struggled to get out a full team.
Congratulations to SYO on mobilising their club.

Also enjoyed finding controls in the sunshine in Herts, thankyou. What is the current split between cup and trophy club sizes? While size is no absolute predictor of quality (remembering the rankings club rankings), I'm always a little surprised by which some of the clubs which are in the trophy competition.

From the 2014 rules:
1.2.2 Entry to the Trophy competition shall be limited to those clubs with 125
or fewer members of British Orienteering. For this purpose individual Senior and
Junior members each count as one member.
The count only includes Juniors in classes M/W12 and above

Re: Compass Sport Cup & Trophy 2014
Some statistics related to the other threads.
21 of the trophy clubs had full teams
15 didn't have a full team of 13 scorers.
At the Yorkshire and North West rounds all 9 trophy teams had a full team of 13 scorers. South East and Scotland had the most incomplete teams.
Dropping the number of qualifing scorers by two to 11 for the trophy would mean 30 full trophy teams and 6 partial teams.
Hopefully next year, moving the date away from half term will increase the number of full trophy teams.
All but one of the rounds used Autodownload. Presumably any changes to software for rule changes would have to be done by SportIdent, and that would be a cost past on to competitors rather than someone volunteering to change the software?
Even though SEOA had more incomplete teams than the other rounds except Scotland, turnout for these clubs was much better than for equivalent South East League events (high quality level C/B regional events).
Well done to CHIG for using both Broxbourne and Wormley woods, they could probably have used just Broxbourne without need for road crossings and extra mapping costs, but adding Wormley made it a much better course IMHO.
