Simon,
looks like a great tool.
I see you've added the ability to see splits of selected runners, what about distance?
In original RG all you got was pixels, but that gave an ability to compare route choice length. There also was a way of working out the number of pixels/km so that actual distance could be found.

Excellent! Many thanks for implementing this - it's great fun! Have yet to find a really classic long leg on the HH events list to test this fully however, but I've only looked at Burnham Beeches and Ashridge so far ...
Note, original RG has had control by control (animation restart at each control) for about 5 years. Example:
http://www.dvoa.org/cgi/gadget/reitti.c ... 7&kieli=en
I have been searching for that feature (of RG 1.0) for years - I still can't see it! (Not that it matters a great deal now - but I am curious.)

Re: Routegadget 2.0: Sneak preview
Animation restart isn't in the routegadget.co.uk installed version but is in other versions around the web - e.g. http://www.noc-uk.org/gadget/cgi-bin/re ... =92&kieli=
Note the extra option you have in the bottom right.

And now added to DVO web site athttp://www.derwentvalleyorienteers.org.uk/results/rg2/index.php#58 , so includes last Sunday's British Schools and the British Middle Distance. Thanks Simon for this. Great to avoid the Java issue.

What HTML5 issues are you referring to?
Mostly related to limitations or differences with video and audio elements so probably not relevant for RG. I guess you're mainly using the canvas element which may be more compliant.
Also you now have to have a Mac (with Mountain Lion) to debug iOS 6 and iOS 7. If anyone has a post 2009 second hand Mac going cheap give me a shout!

Re: Routegadget 2.0: Sneak preview
As you may have noticed latest java version say unsigned applet will be blocked in future releases. The first such version is 51 and it comes out January 2014. From then on to unsigned applets will be blocked at default settings. To run them one will have to go to java control panel and set the security slider to medium, then it apparently should start with the usual warning.
As far as I unerstand to run them at default settings one would need to either sign it with a certificate ($$$) or use "self-signed certificates within a known community" -approah. https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform- ... ates_for_a
Oracle is has sort of lost competence and giving up, they are not able to make java secure and make applets run in a sandbox like flash and silverlight and all other plugins do. Certainly time to get rid of java and other Oracle products

Re: Routegadget 2.0: Sneak preview
I've just uploaded a new version which closes out quite a lot of the comments from this Forum as well as feedback from elsewhere. It's running on the HH site and available for download. Progress is being aided by my son, James, who is learning Javascript very fast. Changes you might not have seen yet:
Small screens and tablets are marginally better but I still need to sort out the touch interface.
- re-organisation of screen to use smaller buttons and provide more space on small displays
- ability to hide info panel
- replay by control
- split times now include distances (in pixels)
- replay now displays runner names which can be toggled on/off (James did this)
- various other minor issues that people had pointed out

I've just uploaded the latest version. This now allows you to draw routes and upload GPX files. HH have an event tomorrow, so I'll get people to use RG2 rather than RG1 to see how it goes.
It's running on the HH site and available for download. You'll need to make some minor adjustments to the existing configuration file if you want to install it.

Uploaded to our gadget site and all seems well.

This is great, thanks again. We had an urban event in Penrith today so I'm looking forward to trying out the draw function. If I encourage folk to test it out, should it be with the proviso that these routes may not be saved when future development takes place, so they should still use the original routegadget first?

RG2 reads and writes the same files as RG1. Anything you save from RG2 should still be readable in RG1, and anything saved by RG1 should be readable by RG2. So there should be no need to use both versions (and indeed they both check to prevent you drawing multiple routes for the same result, although you can add more than one GPS route for a result). I certainly don't expect to throw anything away in future, so you only need to enter your route once.
If things go wrong then they can be undone from the existing Routegadget Manager by deleting a route. (RG2 manager is the next major development stage.)
I'd recommend doing a backup of the /kartat directory before you start using RG2 for real so you can go back if things go really wrong, but this would really be a last resort since most things can be sorted by editting the relevant file directly if needed.

Excellent, thanks. I've tried the new version and all went well.
Might be nice if you added a self destruct feature for embarrassing routes..

Looks good for most events but not our street score events which have no results files. In RG1 you draw a route and type in your name and time, rather than selecting your name from a list. Could that feature be added please? Our installation is at http://www.sroc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/

It's on the list of things to add, but it needs quite a big update since it involves creating new results rather than just adding to existing results. That all falls within developing the RG2 Manager which I'm about to start.
