Re: Ed Nicholas leaves BOF
Sorry my comments yesterday might be taken out of context. Mr. Ed Nicholas has for me represented the public face of BO well over his tenure and I know that it will be difficult to find a replacement who put the time and effort in to getting to know orienteers of all levels from across the country. I think he has done a great job trying to put together a coherent plan while being pulled in all directions by us the orienteering public and salute his efforts. He is a genuine fan of the sport and I hope that taking the new role will allow him to start enjoying himself more out in the forest again.
I for one wish him well moving from (smelling of) BO to (talking) BS. In all seriousness I hope that he is successful in getting the chlorine content of swimming pools the length and breadth of the country just right for the punters, phasing out those white verruca socks by 2018 and developing the new kids on the block like butterfly and that sculling thing that 70 year old men do that annoys the hell out of me. I for one will be throwing in a few extra lengths of breaststroke every week to help him achieve new heights in getting us all swimming and hope you will do the same.
Good luck Eddie!

Re: Ed Nicholas leaves BOF
On a personal level I hope he can take on that bugbear of mine - new gyms that open that don't bother to make their new swimming pools 25 metres* and go for 20m + Jacuzzi creating a scourge across the land. I hope Ed is able to stamp out this controversial practise by developing some kind of swimming pool levy system that charges extra per metre under 25m. Or some kind of public awareness campaign with a large man farting in a paddling pool and asking them if this is really what they want or whether they would rather have their extra 5m at the end of their pool back.
Also why just stick at 50m for our championship pools, why not go the whole hog and put 100m pools over the whole country. Surely we can save time by not doing tumble turns and hit the Aussies and Chinese where it hurts - we need to encourage the Linford Christies of the Olympic and Paralympic swimming movement
People who sit in the shallow end nattering and getting the way - surely in the days of electronic punching he can develop swim caps which administer an electric shock if a swimmer does not put his emit brikke into the far end wall every 90 seconds.
I'm sure he will make his own mark in the swimming world anyway.
* I don't mind 25 yards because it is old school

Hey Meat - don't hold back! What about people who don't shower before they get into the pool - do we really want to swim in other people's sweat? And nose clips - why? Or people who insist on swimming in the fast lane when they are only moderate swimmers because they think it makes them look serious! I tell you Ed has got his work cut out sorting that lot out - orienteers look like pussycats by comparison - at least they have full body cover
