Intersting that 100% of the 16s are Scots but only one of the 18s. Does this say something about the future?

Re: EYOC 2013
I see they are registered as GBR - in FIN we were down as England - which was duly objected to!
Interesting how some of the girl's surnames and forenames are the wrong way round ... or is it the chaps' ones?
GL to all!

Re: EYOC 2013
It certainly looked like the future at the JIRCs (held recently on the south coast of England).
The strength and depth of the Scottish JOS was very impressive.
And good luck to all at EYOC.

Re: EYOC 2013
I spotted a young Miss Aebersold, daughter of Christian (who has a few WOC relay titles to his name from the early 90s).
Are any of the other medallists kids of world champs?

Heidi Martenson, 4th on the sprint is the current Junior World Champ from this year in Czech, and daughter of Jorgen - who no doubt some other Nopers will tell us what he achieved - multiple World Champs?
Sara Hagstrom who won today was also at JWOC and may well have been in the medals there but mispunched.
Just goes to show how strong the competition is.

Jörgen ran at WOC when he was younger than many of these EYOCers, finishing (I think) in the top -10. Certainly well clear of the Brits.
He also set up Park Work tour, which will be coming to Stirling next year.
(and won 10 WOC medals in between)
Coming soon
Boston City Race (May, maybe not)
Coasts and Islands (Shetland)

And has won at least one age group gold at WMOC as a 35, a 40, a 45, a 50 and is a first year 55 next year.

Re: EYOC 2013
from the British Orienteering report on the website yesterday
"Dane Blomquist and Joe Woodley are also eagerly awaiting tomorrow’s race as this has been the 2013 focus for both."
and they appear to have dead-heated with a time of 52.25 for 30th place!

Some great GB runs in the younger age classes too.

Re: EYOC 2013
Megan Carter-Davies looked to be going brilliantly well until something went wrong in the latter stages. I'd put money on Sasha Chepelin getting a JWOC podium place in the future.
Must be such a good expeience for all 11 team members and well done to Portugal for putting it all together at such relatively short notice.

Re: EYOC 2013
Long distance, winning time = 42 mins. Surely the EWT should be 1 hour for these young fit girls and boys.
Edit: checking I see there is only sprint/"long"/relay in scope for this competition so perhaps it is a naming anomaly as there is no "middle".

The rules say W16 35-40mins, M16/W18 40-45mins, M18 45-50mins. 3 out of 4 long races were won in the appropriate range, with two M16s breaking 40 mins.
Not every nation believes that the best way to develop junior orienteers is to make them run very long distances (but then I expect few of them can match our enviable record for retaining juniors through to the senior ranks...)
Edit: but more importantly, some great runs from our juniors, especially from Sasha

And very well done to the M16 team of Andrew Barr, Callum White and Daniel Stansfield who took a podium 6th place in the relays today at EYOC.
Dare I say well done to the BOF team for getting the results (and a report) up on the website pronto!
