I'd like to thank Eryri and helpers for an excellent event on a cracking area at Newborough today. Usually towards the end of a course I just feel knackered - today I was just enjoying it, as the black course wound through some wonderful runnable and bumpy areas in the second half of the course.
When can we all come back please?

Re: Welsh Champs
Indeed, a really enjoyable weekend's Orienteering. Many thanks to Eryri & Dee and also to JOK for the chasing sprint on Saturday.
Its been a good few weeks for Welsh Orienteering - Best ever performance by the juniors at JIRCS, followed by the best ever performance by Veterans at the VHI and then one of the best Welsh Championships weekends that I can recall.
Here's looking forward to the JK in South Wales next year.......

Thanks to Eryri and all concerned for a great event on Sunday. (couldn't get to the JOK chase in time, wish I had). Newborough is a fabulous area and the planning really made the most of it, organisation was my favourite sort (efficient, relaxed). Please can we come back again?

Sorry, I was being thick - clicking the "Category" Results not the event name heading.
Got there now.
Thanks for a great, challenging event.

I get an Error. Click for details message first time, but refreshing the page brings up the map etc. as expected.
However, there's a glitch in the Splitsbrowser files, e.g. http://www.dee.routegadget.co.uk/dee/reitti.cgi?act=splitsbrowser&id=149 for courses 3 and up, which seems to be because some individuals had split times missing.
It would be nice if this could be sorted out

Re: Welsh Champs
Just before starting I heard that there was a problem with some boxes not having had the firmware upgrade for the new SI cards so I put my new shiny flashy speedy one back in its box and took out my old type 4 and ran with that instead.
My guess is that some of the missing splits might be caused by boxes not working for people with new type 10/11 dibbers. This can be fixed by "guessing" splits for them, but would be time consuming.
BTW did anyone spot whether there were backup punches on Sunday as there were on Sat.

Re: Welsh Champs
I ran course 3 and had problems with 2 controls not working. I used a backup punch at both
This was the only issue that marred a brilliant weekend.

Were you using a type 10 or 11?

Type 6 (6 digit) Have not had any problems previously. It is sometimes slow to clear and check. Maybe on these controls I should have held in a lot longer.

Re: Welsh Champs
Hmm maybe just your SI Card (or dibbing technique) then. I hadn't heard the firmware was that old and I suspect 1/2 the field would have type 6 or newer.
Did you do Sat too - if so did it work there OK?

My wife has the same type of SI Card as me. She ran course 4, and also failed to get a control to work - the same as one of mine, code 116. Other people had problems with this, and also the other control 122. Neither of us had a problem on Saturday.

Re: Welsh Champs
We had similar problems with one control at our local event last night, with it apparently failing intermittently. Our equipment guru suggesats that this is indicative of the battery failing. I'd suggest that the deciding factor on whether you'd record or not is the elapsed time since the last punch and, therefore, the time that the battery has had to 'recover'.
