Think I might give 2014 WOC public races a miss.
(although there were none of these issues at Highland 2011 (also at Asiago) where the few Brits there just turned up and ran.

I know, in fact, last year, Big Jon and family ran on part of the same map I am planning on, there was also a Spanish girl and a few Norwegians, none of whom were asked for a medical certificate - it beggars beleif but we are where we are......................

Must be honest - wishing now I'd entered Salisbury & November Classic.
How does the Venice race and PWT tours manage to accept entries without medical certificates?

Re: Rome 2013
Mike - thanks for your reply. Must say I've doing Daniele really helpful we're just getting confused by different messages!
So, can I just check (before I email our entrants) that we just need a medical cert. signed by a doctor such as we'd do for French races but not a full medical inc. ECG etc.
My guess is for PWT and Venice no one has ever realised that non-Italian competitors would need medical certificates, or if they have not bothered to ask for them.
Feel your pain over the planning - nightmare!

Stogetta
Could you explain what exactly this form is that the doctor signs and where we find it so that we can take it to a doctor
Then I presume we turn up with it on the day?
Thanks

I'm not going to Rome (where's the smug emoticon?) but, according to the FRA website, if one is taking part in an athletic event 'abroad' one can use one's English Athletics membership card instead of a 'fitness to race' letter/certificate. Cannot the BritO membership card work the same magic?

Have you got a link for that, please, as I can't find it; I think several of my running friends would be interested.

At least in France they let you run out of competition without a medical certificate.
Isn't it about time BO started work on some reciprocal arrangements?

I have an English Athletics card - will the Italian orienteering authority accept this in lieu of a medical certificate?

Re: Rome 2013
I'm not sure why you should feel smug not to be going to Rome, by all accounts the races look set to be great, just unfortunately mean going through the pain of Italian bureaucracy. Worse case scenario we still get a trip to Rome.
I think an arrangement of using membership of BOF rather like England Athletics membership mentioned was what something like what was originally agreed (hence having a form to confirm BOF membership), but since membership doesn't require any sort of medical certification it has now turned out this isn't enough (for the reasons Mike gives earlier on.)
Noomember - thanks for attaching the form. I do have this, but given that the goalposts have changed since the original email was sent I just wanted to double check before emailing my club members - and looking at Stodgetta's post I think the WMOC form was just like the one we've used for France i.e. just a Doctor's signature.

If, however, you have submitted a certificate for WMOC, if I were you I would take the line I am not paying twice, I gave it in to Italains at WMOC, you find it. The rest of you non WMOCers are going to have to roll over and play dead and get a certificate - I am so sorry about this.
The form required by participants in WMOC is linked from here. At least this form is far less onerous than the medical form currently circulated to Rome2013 team leaders for completion, which requires a list of specific tests, rather than a more general statement about fitness to competitively orienteer on the WMOC form.
But regardless of that, I think the next thing to do is wait for official clarification from Daniele.

Re: Rome 2013
I'm not going to Rome, but I did have a lot to do with modifying the Medical Certificate required for this year's Italian WMOC. If it's the case that the certificate is similar to that used in Sestriere, then it's very straightforward. A doctor just has to sign a piece of paper which declares that:
Some GPs complied without fuss (or charge), but not all ...
According to the results of medical check-ups and examinations, xxxx is currently healthy and fit to participate in competitive orienteering events and in particular World Master Orienteering Championship 2013 (2 -10 August 2013).

Re: Rome 2013
I've happily had GPs sign something like this for O in France:
http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/do ... teForm.pdf
but bit concerned about this bit
as it seems to still require the tests.
So, best plan to go to GP and see what they say, or get a nice friendly medically qualified orienteer to sign, or to put any random stamp on it and assume nobody will ever look?
and yes, I think I'll just hold off until I've got something more official.
