Seriously, the 6 days is amazing. you get the odd crap area/map/course, yes, but generally it's so good because of all the effort that so many volunteers in Scotland put into the event.
what people pick up on and moan about are the attention to detail, which were a bit lacking at times. doesn't mean it was a bad event, just it wasn't perfect.

And for balance...
the planning was terrible and the map update was pretty shoddy too - not what you expect from the 6 day
I was a bit disappointed when I saw the map in the start lane; even more disappointed when I saw the course. A bit embarrassing, really
Is this the same person who wrote .....
It was very NICE today but it lacked teeth. Just nice, nice, nice all the way until I was fed up of nice and craving for bushy controls in the green plantation areas
There is just no pleasing some people ..... sounds like a grumpy old man!

Re: Moray 2013
Having been to all the Scottish 6 Days it was up there with the best. Need to remember that the expectations of the "Super Elite", ie those running in the Euro Meeting, are different from the rest of us. Who is the event for? The average punter, not the Euro Meeting.
This was tagged on at a late date, when perhaps it should have been at a later date as a stand alone.

Perhaps. Certainly the last time Euromeeting was held in GB it was a standalone event, but that was in the days of WOC every 2 years.
Presumably one of the key reasons for attaching Euromeeting / anything pre 2015 to this 6 days was to attract an increased entry to the competition - which helps every one.
Attaching a small prestige competition to a large holiday event will always mean compromise. 2015 will be a fine example... small (numbers) WOC will have control over large (numbers) Highland.... is that what the 'punters' want? WOC needs Highland, I guess Highland doesn't need WOC.

Or perhaps to test out some of the requirements for WOC 2015?

I think (hope?) 2015 will be one of the best examples yet of how to have a holiday event in conjunction with WOC. Highland is not just a set of spectator races like you generally get at WOC, it's an established multi-day event and I really think it's going to show (and be amazing, as always)

The super-elite (World Champion types) had their feet up last week, the national elite were at World games.
Euromeeting is not a recognised IOF international competition, it is a training opportunity for aspiring Scandinavian athletes in relevant terrain two years ahead of WOC. Other nations are also invited, and it's a good chance to practice events. It's an important training opportunity but you can tell it's not an important competition by the way there are almost no previous results on the web.
I think mharky first suggested to me that we bid for Euromeeting, the original idea being Summer 2014 in the event which eventually became RaceThe Castles. I started the process of pre-WOC events back in 2011. BOF had no idea how/to whom to bid. Eventually I found SOFT took responsibility and in consultation with Norway and Finland
2013 in Scotland became the Nordics' request.
The chances of finding volunteers for a standalone event after the 6-day are zero, so luckily the 6-day agreed to add of Euromeeting to the elite race day 4&6, these being the only ISOM-standard maps. And greywolf made the sprint happen, cunningly identifying SEDs and ScotJoS as ways of making people help out twice.
It would be nice to pretend it was all part of a cunning participation plan like Gross said. But it turned out to be a win-win, extra entries for the six day, the highest profile ever for Euromeeting, and relatively little extra work for volunteers. What's not to like?

As was WOC 2013
As was WOC 2009. This might be a better model for 2015, since the Hungarians had rather less money than the Finns. I took part in most of the Hungaria Cup, watched most of the WOC events, and my daughter got to meet Thierry Gueorgiou.

It was good, in parts very good, but up with the best? Maybe; I suspect time will have to tell. What was interesting was that the bits I looked forward to most tended to be those that disappointed most, whilst those I was uncertain about, tended to shine. Thus for me...Carse was a highlight, a really well planned course in an area that needed it to make it any good. I also thoroughly enjoyed Loch of Boath (our course was infinitely better than M21E had), Roseisle (this was the one event that I expected much of, and delivered) and Coulmony.
Disappointments were: Roseisle for OH (both offspring and I rated our courses), Culbin (although OH and offspring rated their courses given the limitations of the area), and Lossie for all three of us. OH, the only one to run, loved the sprint.
Which probably goes to show that you can't please all the people all the time, but can have a good shot at pleasing most of the people most of the time, and that's what the Six Day did. So a big thank you: it's a big ask, and I'm sure there's much to learn, but also much to be proud of.

As was WOC '99 - in fact this was the original WOC and established multi-day holiday event combination.
