If they finish they'll be ahead of many nations in the results including Norway, Sweden, GBR, Czech..... so a few scalps for them

I must say the overall impression of these games is that GB can definitely compete in these disciplines and have some top class competitors. Well done the guys that made the trip - hopefully its not too long before you get the rewards for all that hard work!

I agree. Our top orienteers (those in Cali plus several others) seem focused on success, so I'm confident they will achieve it. Orienteering can be a cruel sport though. If you aren't 100% committed, the amount of variance in outcomes can really get under your skin. I've met very good runners who didn't stick with the sport because there are too many factors out of their control.

On the Trictrac, looks like Scott went to the wrong boulder at the gaffled #1. Careless: it would cost the team less than two minutes to spend an extra second checking every control code.

mharky: I think Adrian's point is that if you don't like things being out of your control, you'll choose a different sport. I'm not sure what that has to do with this particular thread though.

And then went on to the correct #1 (or somewhere near it, rather than up to the track like everyone else).

It was actually #6 that he mispunched, the same as NOR, SWE & CZE on the other legs. He had the boulder by the ditch but ran straight past it without seeing it and came to the control on the knoll nearer the path. A few other people (NOR, RUS) did the same on Scott's leg but realised and went back.

Obviously we're all fairly gutted but all-in-all it's been a decent trip with all four of us getting top 10 results and clearly showing our potential in the relay. Cali and Colombia have been great hosts and the World Games have been an interesting and thought-provoking spectacle. Now we have a tourist day before the long journey home - hopefully I'll find some time on the journey to write a bit about the week.

Can anyone direct me to a link that shows the number of different courses/gaffles/ and controls there were for the mixed sprint relays, struggling to find what i need.
