When there are 6 runners from each nation Top-20 results are a great performance. Very well done, Peter, Charlotte and Lucy!

Of course Top-10s are even better, and Peter was within 70 seconds, and Charlotte within 20 seconds, of getting one of those. I'm looking forward to some top-10s in the Middle and Sprint later this week!

Men: 7 nations in top 8;

4 countries got medals

BTW AndyC, your "signature" about being slow and from the NE doesn't make a compelling capture for that photo!

In the Middle distance competition, the competitors placed
number 20 or better in each qualification race heat will qualify
to the A-Final. Competitors placed 21- 40 in each qualification
race heat will run in the B-fi nal. The remaining competitors
run in the C-final. This exception is valid for both classes, M20
and W20. Start intervals for Middle B and C final will be 1
minute only.
If there is more than one runner in 20th place in a qualification
heat,, there will be more runners in the A final.

Can I just say I liked that I just went on facebook and there was a message on my timeline from BOF telling me Lucy qualified first in her heat. Nice work whoever that was!

Any Compass manufacturers reading this? From FB it appears two of the lad's broke their compasses during the run (exactly the same excuse my wife used for retiring at the Northern Champs)

Tremendously well done to Charlotte and Lucy for their outstanding results today. They are therefore off right at the sharp end of the women's A final tomorrow. And equally well done and congratulations to Zoe and Jonny too. Commiserations to the others who will run in B and C finals.

I counted qualification by country for the women's A final. Only the home country qualified a full six runners, showing the stony terrain provided a tough challenge, as you might expect from viewing the map. Sweden and Finland qualified five, and five countries qualified four. Team GB was one of three to qualify three.

In the men's 26 countries qualified at least one athlete for the A final. With Finland taking six places, and the Czechs, Swedes and Swiss five each there was quite a squeeze. Mind I expect the Australians will be noting they did manage two to GB's one.

GPS is back tomorrow for all A final runners. I didn't have it working on Sunday during the long, but I could view the replay today. It may have been my problem. I guess we are spoilt with Seuranta which is designed for orienteering, but I was amused that the leaders all seemed to have picked up the white colour for their tracks. OK it is a slightly different white from the open forest white.
