Euro MTBO Champs - Well done Emily

Loks like Em Benham had a most convincing win in the European MTBO middle race today :boosch:

4th in Sprint today - her tweet sounds disappointed but she shouldn't be that is still an excellent result
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Nothing wrong with being disappointed that a route choice error costs you the Silver medal that you were on for. But you're right, that 4th is still a great result! :boosch:

Interesting that in the middle distance, with a 4-minute start interval, following the winner from the first control to the finish still gets you on the podium.

4 mins is close to a km at foot O even at elite level - it must be a lot further in MTBO and surely makes following rather difficult?

Original sprint was voided due to passable fence on map being impassable on ground (i think there was a gate which wasn't open) which cost athletes well over a minute.

As for 4min deficit, looking at the 1st leg and reading Em's comments I would think the caught cyclist went straight which was a much slower route, but the rider concerned is a pretty quick cyclist so would have been able to keep up once caught.
Second half of course looks really technical for an MTBO course so I can see how Em was quite a bit ahead of her rivals.

Great results from a young athlete.

I suspect Graeme was querying the "run", rather than the "re-". :wink:

Running is allowed in MTBO, but riding is generally encouraged, and likely to be more effective.

Em was 10th in the Long Mass Start today, 4 .5 minutes down. Pleased with her result as she 's not focused on Long this year. :D
