Re: Wow! [SELOC Urban Weekend]
I see the results and comments on the above (notably mentioning significant issues later in the course) are on the SELOC web paage http://www.seloc.org.uk/results/38-salford2013
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Great racing at Horwich today. Superb afternoon courses around the town - plenty of gaffles to reward concentration and really enjoyable head-to-head racing. It was great to be part of a big running event and starting just after the carnival passed by meant there were plenty of spectators around.
Oh, and the uni-cycle race was great to watch!

Good fun. Enjoyed the Manchester/Salford run and it wasn't until I could study it at leisure that I realised that the route choice, on the whole, was less challenging than it seemed on the run. The Horwich event today was great with all the other activities going on, with the frenetic pace of the final giving the whole ambience a literal and metaphorical rush. Special mention for the final start. There can't be many events with a start-line instruction as unusual as 'give way to unicyclists'.

Regards the final, an excellent course, and a great idea, but it was a bit disappointing that not everyone started together who were on the same course/class. I meant that instead of running head to head with people on the same class, I was running pretty much alone (after Dave Schorah had disappeared into the distance on the first butterfly). It also meant it was hard for any spectators to understand the competitive element, and who was 'winning', let alone the commentator (but I don't think he had a clue anyway, and cared more about getting cyclists of his circuit). In future this would be better for everyone, and it would also mean less queuing at controls waiting for people with dibbers bought in the last century.

Re: Wow! [SELOC Urban Weekend]
I was a little gutted not to have been able to run this weekend at any of the 3 events we managed to put on. Were only a small club and had over half of our members helping out in one way or another.
It took a lot of time and effort from the team to make it happen however with the great feedback we have received it makes it all the more worthwhile.
Thanks!
