Great example of interclub co-operation

Orienteers going to the South East Relays at Brasted Chart on Sunday 23rd June not be aware that it is an excellent example of inter-club co-operation. It used to be a LOK area but they donated the map a few years ago to DFOK who are more active in that area these days (near Westerham, West Kent). It was unusable for orienteering for several years after the 1987 storm but has now tidied itself up.

The result is a new map of an area that (aside from a Kent Night Cup event in March) hasn't been used for 25 years. Facilities look good too with parking at Emmetts Garden (National Trust gardens with tea room and lots of flowers etc if you like that kind of thing...)

You don't have to be a South East Club to run competitively (but you do to win the prizes).

So if you know your club has an area that it hasn't used for a while, why not see if the neighbours can make use of it? The worst that can happen is that they will remap the area and put on an event

Just noticed the final details on this. Seems like the map has been extended to cover Emmetts Garden itself which should add some entertainment. I guess we have to be careful not to squash the specimin roses etc.

If you can't find two others in your club to make a team, you can run one of the 4 courses (Short Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow) as a colour coded EOD course (email the organiser by next Friday to reserve a map though). Quite a good innovation also if one or two team members drop out.

But it would be better to raise a team to get some atmosphere. Final details mention a radio control, not bad for a level D event. Entries by this Sunday for the relay courses.
