1st English Champs counter at Fairfield Horseshoe today (after Edale Skyline fell foul to the weather in March). Plenty of orienteers knocking about, but Jonny Crickmore astounded many by finishing 4th in a top top quality field - was expecting a good run from him, but not this! Just wow!
Following Hector winning in the Scottish champs race at at Stuc a Chroin last weekend, (and Kris Jones beating 7th place at Fairfield earlier in the week at Burbage Skyline following his Tio run, with Aiden Smith 3rd also) it seems like the Goldin2015 athletes are hitting great form!

That is a class performance against the top fell running field in England and Wales. Just shows what Derbyshire peat bogs and the strong Sheffield training group can help an athlete to achieve.
Doug Tullie was first at the Ben Lomond race yesterday by 3 minutes - great result.

Are you going to mention that you got bronze?
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Interesting to see how you used "my" area - it was a bit far to travel this time but I'll be back for the British Champs next year in another area I wondered why we had never used.

I didn't use as much of the area as you -different requirements for a level C against the Northern Champs. I also had the advantage that they'd burnt heather between the events improving runnability in some interesting areas but I did have more OOB/avoid issues due to lambing and a change in tenancy.
The "other area" for the British Champs (54/55 weeks away) is currently being intensively mapped and is apparently turning out to be the expected mixture of "brilliant" and "grot" but there are exceptionally experienced planners on the team so I expect a predominance of the "brilliant" and only that "grot" that can't be avoided in connecting the "brilliant". (I'm not going near as I want to compete)

I'm not a young person. I had to look up the meaning of "giving it toes"
According to UrbanDictionary.com -
give it toes
to "give it toes" simply means to leave. More specifically to go home or somewhere else when the place you are currently has served its purpose or become boring. In personal experience it is acceptable to abbreviate the phrase down to "toes?" when asking somebody familiar with the term.
None the wiser.

taking liberty with the similarities between 'leave' and 'move' quickly
(although normally under pursuit from the rozzers as probably entered my lexicon from shameless or similar)
fantastic leap off-topic from those further up...

Nobody has bothered the Kenny Stuart era records for a long time, but the times Hector and Doug have been running would be competitive any time since. Fact is, to be a world level orienteer you need to be running at that level. But you already know that of course
