Re: World Schools Middle
The live results seem to be almost complete results, and if that's the case....
GOLD for Dane Blomquist!!
and Bronze for Alex Chepelin
both in the M1 Selected class.
Silver for Abigail Mason in W2 School
Silver for Emma Wilson and Bronze for Clare Stansfield in W2 Selected
It also looks like podium places for William Louth and Harrison McCartney in M2, and for Julie Emerson in W1.
Great start!

Re: World Schools Middle
Congratulations to Sasha and especially Dane - this should make up (a little) for his JWOC non-selection.

Don't think it will quite make up for no JWOC selection to him, he was very disappointed.
I hope it shows the selectors what they've missed!
Well done Dane! You are a star x

Re: World Schools Middle
When you take in to consideration Dane was the 3rd starter on his Course his achievement is top notch, very rarely in this sport do competitors win these events from an early start time.
It must have been just as nerve racking for him watching the runners come in as it was for his family trying to keep in touch with live results, which seem to break down every couple of minutes.
Well Done to the all the lads and lasses in the England and Scottish Teams for todays efforts and good luck for the Long race on Friday.

A slightly different topic but still to do with performance.... I see BOF now have a non orienteer as 'performance lead'.... anyone know if that post was advertised & where???
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Re: World Schools Middle
I understand that Dane would be very dissapointed, but his average % behind the winner was 7th the selections were fair, if your going to blame the selections qualify why you believe there wrong.
All the runners were very close it wasn't an easy decision but it was fair.

Re: World Schools Middle
Mmm a bit defensive but I can guess why.
I wasn't criticising the selectors - as you say it was very close. But they could just have easily chosen total time as the deciding factor which would have seen Dane much better placed.
The mystery I referred to is the fact that the selectors don't seem to say what criterion they are actually using to make their calculations - or at least nowhere I can see. It would perhaps help people come to terms with and accept the selections if everyone knew in advance :positions, percentages, total time, what ever.
Don't you think so?
It's all about transparency and we all know BOF hasn't had the best possible track record in that department.

Re: World Schools Middle
Actually, it is explained in the selection policy on the BO website. Selections are based on competition form (inc % behind); technical competence, professional attitude, physical preparation & the 'X' factor! So not just % behind / total time etc.

Great to see four of the JWOC boys make the A final at the Sprint Champs today including an excellent 9th for M18 Chris Galloway. Hopefully the depth of talent will spur them all on.
