You can probably outrun me (note "probably")

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Help me ... I seem to have got out of touch with costs)
No mistake, prices for entries have been spiralling up for several years. Though not as much as the price of SI cards... Since 2000 entry costs have roughly doubled, SI cards quadrupled and the CPI (and general O-kit) is up by about 30%.
For all the whinging about emit, this shows the danger of handing an effective monopoly to one supplier.

Re: British Sprints
Were SI cards really on sale for £7 (£28 / 4) in 2000?! Wish I'd saved up and stockpiled dibbers instead of spending my pocket money on sweets.

Re: British Sprints
I had a feeling my SI card cost about £7-50 back in 2000; that made buying your own definitely cost-effective, not so sure now.
Edit: OK, £14, I remembered wrongly. Still paid for itself pretty quickly.

A quick look at a Compass Sport magazine from 1999 when I bought mine shows that Ultrasport were indeed selling them for £14.

So SI units have only increased by just over 100% not quadrupled as inferred in an earlier post - similar rise to entry fees

Re: British Sprints
Ah but if you want the best available card (and don't get any discount) it's £61.75p which is more than 4x£14 so graeme might be right

Re: British Sprints
I was a bit evasive when Mrs Freefall asked me how much my new shiny Version 11 SI unit cost. About a penny a run I said but probably the truth is nearer a penny a punch. Good value!

Your £28 series 5 and 6 can't be used for many long elite courses nowadays. And it's so well established that nobody uses these, that organisers don't even tell you that your card wont work when you enter.

Do you mean series 5 and 8? Series 6 can record 64 controls, that ought to be enough.
But for those of us who run shorter courses, the cheaper cards are still fine, unless you really think the 270ms saving on punching time is worth it.
By the way, SI UK only charge £49.99 for the top end card (unless you want a personalised number and that's only another £2.50), so I can't see why anyone would pay £61.75.

So they are - but I'm not sure how you get to that page, the one I found (https://www.sportident.co.uk/equipment/ ... y.php?id=1) just listed the "discounted" prices, which seem to be what you'd pay as a private individual.

Re: British Sprints
I enjoyed the chasing sprint on the original Loughborough Uni map http://reentrant.wordpress.com/2009/04/ ... round-now/ Rereading the post I see I suggested a reverse chasing start, and I'm sorry I missed the one you're talking about. I'll have to organise one...
