I wont be printing the final details booklet either, as have no access to a printer, not everyone has, and since we paid for entries, paid for the parking permit, we shouldnt have to print it ourselves. It will be interesting to find out what happens at the car parks? (should they ve in use if it rains)

Stop complaining, you won't have paid for the printing of the final details or the printing of a parking permit or P&P either!

Just don't understand start times for individual days - requested 1100 to 1300 both days but get 1029 for both days. What happened to balanced start times? Others seem to have starts on both days after 1300 hours, which can be just 2 track runs. But guess it means I have both afternoons free, providing I can leave the car park!

What happened to balanced start times?

We seem to have this debate every year.
Everyone has the chance to ask for early/middle/late starts independently for each day. There is no system of balanced starts at the JK. Maybe you are thinking of the White Rose?

My 2 late starts do seem to be getting earlier each year though, presumably as more and more of us are asking for 2 late starts

How can it be fair for someone to start after someone else on both days ?

Well I would like to say thank you to the organisers for taking the decision to give the second parent in a split start a punching start. It takes the pressure off me trying to get back but means if I have a good run my other half is not waiting round half the day to run.

Not got one yet, but the details say "by 22 March", so perhaps there'll all arrive today.

Re balanced start times - I don't think a late start will be an advantage on Hambleden as it's wide open and runnable anyway. At Cold Ash you're more likely to get tracks but they might be properly muddy and slow by the end of the day

But anyway the rule is clearly that both days are treated independently so you can have late on both if you choose.

However the WRE Guidelines state that

There should be drinks (water being the minimum standard) available at the Finish for all (WRE) competitors.

Note that the word "should" emphasises that there is no "rule" involved here at all, the JK organisers are encouraged to supply drinks at the Finish but it is by no means a requirement.

Now thats why punters get peed off. The word should definitely does not emphasise there is no "rule" to any sane minded person. It pretty clearly means "do this". If organisers are encouraged to put drinks there why not just say organisers are encouraged to put drinks there! Sheesh - where's the Plain English Society when you need them...

Not so - it ought to be made explicit somewhere (not sure if it is), but in every rules-type document I've seen, "shall" means you have to do it and "should" means it's recommended. The BOF rules and guidelines generally follow this principle as well, here's an example:

1.7.3 Selection criteria shall be publicised in advance to explain how runners may qualify to be selected for the event.
1.7.4 The selection criteria for M/W21E should normally include:

• A majority of places allocated on the basis of performances in the current year
• A small number of places to be allocated to those not qualifying by the first method, based on a written application

I didn't bother requesting any particular start time and was assuming that we would probably get a variety of start times or that there would be a club start block. Neither seems to have happened. We have middle start times all 3 days, which are not at similar times to the other members of our club. However due to the clocks changing I am glad we do not have early start times on day 3!

Unless there is a pressing need to request start times at multi day events I would certainly prefer to have balanced start times in a start block with other members of my club. It is much more sociable and easier to cope with the logistics of the club tent and banners. I agree it is not fair to have late starts all days, so perhaps there should not be any option of start times unless there are particular circumstances, in which case you ask the organiser politely with justification.
