EPOC look forward to welcoming you to Calderdale with its historic Urban and Pennine woods and moors for the Northern Championship and UK Orienteering League weekend on the 22nd and 23rd June.
We are discussing arrangements for the Saturday Urban Event and would like to start a forum thread exploring preferred start times.
We could run the event at any time from midday. Doing it at teatime could help us avoid shopping crowds but would this suit people more/ less who are traveling, staying in the area, competing hard the next day?
Let me know what you think.

As late as possible please, although I'd prefer it still to be light at the finish.
Seriously, teatime.

Evening is obviously best for anyone who has to stay over: one night rather than two. For me, it would probably tip the balance between coming and not. Physically, I don't think there much difference in recovery between midday and evening races.
Coming soon

For those of us distant but within manageable driving range (c.100 miles in my case) and who can only do the one day, a later start time would mean a more leisurely and relaxed drive to get there. The time of departure after the race is far less important.

For those with kids I think a mid-afternoon start would be best.
For example, we're hoping to come, returning to Harrogate on the day - kids need to be fed at 5 and bedded after 6 so 1-3 starts would suit us.

Teatime, say 4 to 6pm would make a nice change to most races I did last year which took a big bite out of the middle of the day. As well as quieter streets. Though I can see there isn't going to be a consensus!
