Re: Online petition in support of 'real' orienteering
Have just read about the CompassSport Polls in the latest edition, over which the expert-Sprint-O-practitioner editor presumably has some influence, one of which is interesting:
You are allowed one O superpower. Which one?
(these were relevant)
1. The ability to run really fast in terrain, no matter how rough it is. - 20 votes (33.3%)
(Urban O doesn't take place in 'terrain', and, if it does, it's never rough)
2. The ability to turn a 2-D map into a perfect/accurate 3-D image in your head. -
15 votes (25%)
(Not necessary in Urban O)
3. The ability to always choose the best attack point and fine nav into the control
perfectly. 11 votes (18.3%)
(Not necessary in Urban O)
4. The ability to look the coolest guy/gal in the forest. - 4 votes (6.7%)
(What happened to urban chic?)
5. The ability to smell orienteering flags from 300m away - 4 votes (6.7%)
(Do odours pass through buildings?)
6. The ability to ALWAYS run in a straight line - 2 votes (3.3%)
(A superpower indeed in Urban O)

No, I love sprint orienteering, but this petition is about a different issue. Personally, I agree, and have signed.
