Entries now open until tonight in the hope that 'plain lazy' might back up his enthusiasm , although I recognise he is probably recovering from a rather busy previous weekend.

Hahahaha! Thanks Roomungus for keeping entries open til tonight. Pleased to inform you that I finally entered the Black and I am looking forward to tearing about on the newly surveyed map!

For all the heavy rain that hit the whole country yesterday, we didn't see any. So don't expect the mud you get elsewhere.

Well before the Elgin v Rangers match was rescheduled, the police were not too happy with a competetive road crossing of A96 (even timed-out) and with the footy traffic now I am glad we acknowledged their advice!

And the football has now been rescheduled to another date completely because too many tickets have been sold.

I test ran Black during the week and it is a beautiful, very runnable forest. We still have some spare on all courses. Brown gets a full tour of the estate as well.
If anyone fancies a late entry, contact the organiser (me) by lunchtime tomorrow to guarantee your map or arrive promptly on Sun am.

The Elgin City Chairman used to work for me once upon a time. I shall be having a word! Graham Tatters did a spell as ECFC fitness coach as his favourite session was beasting the players up the hills in Quarrelwood. Doubt they ever learned to read a map though.... shame as they now have a bit of spare time on their hands Sunday morning.

Probably not quite the same technical challenge, but if anyone darn sarf wants to try a brand new area (and that doesn't happen very often) there's a BADO event at Humbly Grove on 6th Jan.

Well Aldroughty was even nicer than I expected. Pity that we had uncharacteristaclly unpleasant weather for Moravian, but we did have a warm hotel suite to thaw out the freezing digits.

How can we have sat on such a brilliant area without ever using it. I had thought that there would be undergrowth problems in parts, but the only time it was bad it was mapped, AND I shouldn't have been there!

2 hour drive in torrential rain to get there, torrential rain and freezing wind during the race, I smiled for the whole 10km of the Black course, I loved the terrain, the technical level was great (not too tricky but you had to keep your wits about you), Steve S got the best out of the area.

Easily the most fun I've had orienteering this year, better even than some of the lightening fast Deeside Night Cup races at start of the year. Can't wait to get back there again soon? SOL next anyone? Or Relays?

For anyone interested, the Eight Acres Hotel charged us only £35 for their facilities. Those who were there will recognise what good value that was. Yes, they'll have done well out of the welcome hot soup and rolls at £3.50 a shot that was completely gone by the end (paid for via an honesty basket) but I think it was nice that a large hotel was prepared to recognise this event as something fairly special, and happily put up with a crowd of sweaty muddy orienteers.

They sounded serious about offering a special deal for the 6 Day week so anyone still looking for accommodation with lots of facilities could give them a try and ask them what they might have in mind. There's a great training area with a permanent course right out the back door!
