The loss of the ability of the BOF membership system to recognise both an open and closed club was, I believe, a mistake/lack of communication rather than a deliberate change in policy. Thus it was hoped that the membership system would change to reflect the rules, rather than vice versa. In the meantime organisers are quite sensibly applying the rules, even without official confirmation of a member's closed club.

I assume you mean quite sensibly not applying the rules...

The rules for the British & JK relays state (in bold):
1.4.3 All members of a team (except for those in an Ad Hoc class) shall be members of the same club, .... For British teams this is as shown on their current British Orienteering membership card.

What nobody seems to have mentioned is how cheap the renewal was.

Apparently the HOC membership secretary was assured it would be possible for the club to maintain family membership after the new scheme was introduced and doesn't understand why this promise has not been honoured by BOF. He is looking at ways to resolve it for this year but it's going to require a lot of to-ing an fro-ing.

Have we reached omnishambles status on this yet?

My club has maintained family membership - so when I did my renewal I paid the BOF fee for two adults and two juniors (£14.00) plus the club family membership fee (£10.00). Our 'membership cards' state that we have 'family' membership. No problems there.

FYI I actually received a reply from BOF regarding the missing memberhip card email and it was resent. Brilliant service from BOF on this one. i retract my previous critisisms. There was no 'other' email address and I have updated all members of the family to my email address so perhaps I will now receive notification when my daughter is eligible for her TD5 certificate now!

Slightly different scenario, our daughter has just gone to Univ and will join Kerno next year, this includes free membership to SWOA but she still wants to run for Wales and compete in the welsh champs (if she is home) so can you belong to 2 associations at the same time?

Yes you can Phil. Indeed a number of the WOA committee are. You'll need to send your money direct to WOA membership sec. Or maybe you can do it via SBOC. I think we do ours via SWOC.

Graeme has already pointed out that this statement is somewhat inaccurate.

However its the word "meantime" that interests me. How many years does "meantime" cover? And do you really believe that there is any intentention to match the membership database with the rules as they, were and have never been changed

I have been assured by Mike H that resoring the ability to hold info on open and closed clubs is on the list of updates for the next (whenever) update of the membership database. I was Chairman of an Open and Closed Club when the oversight was made during the "upgrading" of the database and wrote to him about the issue - that was a wee while ago though.

I've got a page where it says your account requires renewal but also below it says become an individual member.

When I try the account renewal bit it gets stuck at a page with my own details saying that I already exist - there's no way to pay?

Do you have to "become an individual member"? If so its not very clear.

Actually now tried to become an individual member and it does the same. sheesh!

Not yet - still awaiting a reply to both my email and that of my son to BOF office asking why he has been disenfranchised and not offered a renewal. Our club was told the BOF renewal will still support clubs with family membership category, but it seems not.

Yup it just worked for me.

There was a renew button at the top of my account page, just before it said "if you want to become an individual member then blah blah blah. Clicked renew and it took me through a polava of confirmations for all the troops before returning me to My Account page which then had a pay button.

Managed to renew mine today. Turns out everyone in my family was registered under my BOF number (must have been an admin error several years ago) and thats why the system wasnt letting me progress to payment. Jessica at BOF figured this out and sorted it promptly.
