membership renewal

I've just received an email telling me I will be direct debited £10 for two adult memberships in December. As far as I know this is the first time I haven't paid for ALL the kids despite the fact Young Neville is 23 because I think I'm right in saying that old BOF family membership actually covered offspring up to the age of 25. (I stand to be corrected). I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if I had been told I was being billed £25 for my family unit.

I wonder if they have emailed the kids and told them their membership is about to expire. I can't see any of my children being sufficiently motivated or savvy or flush enough to pay their own membership - especially as Neville is in NZ for much of next year so is BOF about to loose 3 members? Very possibly.

I'm not being offered any mechanism to pay for them, there doesn't seem to be any student membership fees, is this another nail in the young adults' coffins. Very possibly.

Having just managed to sort mine - 2 of my children and my husband have not renewed. My nephew is at university, my step daughters ex and son's friends who I paid for have not rejoined. So thats 6 down and 5 paid for - £20 compared with the nearly 60 quid last year!

Ah Mrs H. Never had this dilemma as Mrs seabird never orienteered, (well not until this weekend when she was my assistant controller at Ogden - tasked with propping me up due to my severely bruised ribs from the previous weekend.)

So the cheaper option was always individual membership for me and the offspring rather than family membership.

So when they became seniors I just carried on paying their membership through direct debit, until they insisted I stop last year, Whereupon little Ms seabird decided not to renew.

Mr Hoco emailed BOF to find out how to pay for Master Hoco. The response was it is too late for this year but he'll be able to do it for 2014. Hmm Do they not want these young persons. It is nor just the membership I think it means no JK and BOC . I thought the idea was more people more ........ and more ...... At present I can only think of unprintable worsa for the P's.

Surely all they have to do it allow a DD to be set up for these young persons where parents want to pay a senior membership. Perhaps I should ask if mine can be transferred

Well that's for me to decide isn't it? They do all still enjoy orienteering from time to time and seeing their old friends in the sport and I enjoy it when they decide to come along. Do your children orienteer DenbyDale?

I suppose BOF must be going to write to them to tell them they need to renew

I've just received a membership notification thing from BOF about a week after my Dad (I've been on family membership in past too). I don't know whether this is automated because I'm too old for family membership or because of the new system but Neville and the girls may have had emails too now...?

I don't think they can have my kids' email addresses?
Am seeing the girls at the weekend and will ask. Last I heard from Neville he was heading into the Abel Tasman National Park - I'm keeping my eyes peeled in "Celebrity" just in case he makes a surprise guest appearance

Letters have arrived for the girls today - luckily I will see them tomorrow so that's good. Nothing for Neville yet. We will see if they want to renew.

It would have been a lot easier if we had been presented with everyone in our membership unit with an opt out option a la Fabian 4. A lot less work and expense for BOF and probably a lot higher chance of them renewing

I'm trying to figure out whats happeneing with ours. My email said the direct debit was cancelled by the bank. But mine is still active so I presume its BOFs bank that the issue. But I dont want to renew online until I am sure that my DD isnt going to come off too. Still in email conversation with the BOFfice girls to check this.

With the annual membership fee being so much cheaper are clubs still planning to offer a £2 adult entry fee discount?

If so, newbies are much more likely to join at an event (a bit like the way the National Trust get many new members "at the gate" for free admission) so we ought to gear up for that by having some 2013 membership forms at Registration. I guess they'd have to pay their £5 up-front.
