Whilst some of you were getting cold and wet (or not) in the New Forest.... I was in Barcelona. Fun sprint race in the old town and long race on Montjuic (starting and finishing inside the Olympic Stadium).
Some interesting mapping of the castle though - confused quite a few, including me.
So, 8-9 on here. How do you get into the castle, and what level is the control on?

Re: Barcelona Race
At a guess... into the Castle under the tunnel just N of #9, then follow the grey underpass symbol round to the staircase, up the stairs then across the courtyard to the control?

Re: Barcelona Race
Hmm, strange. Looks like they've used the grey canopy symbol (to represent a lower level passageway), rather than the underpass or tunnel symbol.
Anyway, into the castle through the gateway in the NE wall, round the pasage system to the T-shaped stairs, up (probably) those, and across the upper level (which might have a rectangular shaped hole in its centre?).
Then the way to 10 depends on the control description...

Re: Barcelona Race
The non-ISSOM buildings tip me off to expect something peculiar with the map. So...
In under the bridge to the east, glancing behind in case the black square (tower?) is just left of the entrance (which I don't expect). At a guess the grey "canopy" doesn't have well defined edges? Some sort of cloister with the central tarmac section being low and crossable? That would explain not using "tunnel".
Assuming I didn't spot the control at the entry, I expect it to become obvious how best to head west to the steps up to the top level. Go up, back east, assume the black square is a building (having looked for it on approach to the castle).
If the control was tucked in at the entry level, and I missed it, I'll take the hit.

I think you're right. And in fact you'd see the tower as you were approaching the entrance...

and once inside it becomes clearer...

Re: Barcelona Race
M40 had a control at the end of the covered passageway just SW of that control in the castle, see routegadget:
http://routegadget.clubcoc.cat/gadget/r ... =32&kieli=
control 8
But some competitors didnt enter the centre of the castle, but went round the outside /inner wall, and reached through the metal gate - that same old problem reaching through an uncrossable feature!
Look at the split times for 8-9 some less than 1 minute; most over 2 minutes.

And about 9 of the class (about 20) had the impossibly quick split.

Re: Barcelona Race
you guys are good! Yes, it was on the tower at the top level. Maybe I'm too used to ISSOM but I got really confused. The grey passageway seemed to look like it went right through so confused when I came out to outside the castle wall, then hard couldn't see the way in, then got to the cloister and confused to not have the control/building just on my left before deciding that those steps must be on the map for a reason. I was in good company though - the ME winner did similar (though a lot more quickly).
It was a good race though, and a great city to spend time in.

Re: Barcelona Race
What was the control description?
Edit: Don't answer that it is on OKOs blog - Tower southern corner (outside).

Re: Barcelona Race
I can see why they used a canopy rather than tunnel, given the photos, but surely there should be some uncrossable boundary symbol running round the outside of the canopy, to indicate that there is no crossing from the upper level down to the courtyard lower level?
