Just been out putting out controls for Sunday. The event is finally happening. It's a lovely forest but is steep and slippy with recent rain and leaf fall so wear your grippiest shoes. The streams are full so take care crossing. I found just wading across easiest but did have my sealskinz on.

Re-introduced and there is no evidence that it became extinct in the first place.

Looks like the blighters are returning from a dip in their population.

Latest I've heard is that RSPB are expecting extinction again soon - string of cold wet springs has killed off several years chicks therefore numbers slumping. From a personal point of view I have certainly seen fewer in the past 4-5 years than before that - and I'm sure its not all down to spending less time training in the forests
