even those of us with (albeit not great) nav skills suffered in the east section on day 1!
I think that, apart from the obvious nav advantage orienteers have, their strength through rough terrain, ingrained from an early age, is as much an advantage over people those who haven't been doing it every other weekend since they were 4. We hit reeds and pretty much ground to a halt (beofre making another big mistake...) whilst, judging by their leg time (#9, day 1 B) Jonny and Pete floated through them!
as well as Orienteers top on A,B,C and D, also 2nd on A, B and C and 3rd on B (Jethro keeping us honest on day 2) and 1st, 3rd and 4th on MS.

Cheers John. Its nicely done although probably could have done with few less shots of people standing around in pairs looking at maps maybe? I keep telling people these things are hard work!

Re: OMM 2012
The track people were using was between 2 areas of cross hatched OOB.The track was not cross hatched so not OOB. The note was ambiguous - it is printed over a road that was cross hatched. Not surprising people misunderstood, especially at the end of a long and cold day.

Re: OMM 2012
Why on earth wasnt the whole area just cross hatched OOB?
Surely if you're retiring you'd simply walk down the OOB road anyway? Seems like they just created a problem that wasnt there?

Re: OMM 2012
I'd point out that indicating that you could enter OOB to retire might be very useful to an exhausted runner who might be concerned that any entry to the OOB might either be dangerous in itself or cause issues with landowners.
But I really can't see any ambiguity in the labelling except that (and I'm working entirely from RG) on at least one course there is a route through OOB marked only by limiting the pink to the sides of the road -effectively the same as this road

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

OMM certificates available to download under "photographs" and photos of prizegiving under "Media". Not particularly well advertised.
