5 Rounds of the YBT today!
TVOC round
1st HH
2nd SN
3rd BKO
4th GO
5th TVOC
I believe HH and SN should qualify. HH because they won and SN because they are runner up to a top 5 finalist from last year / also the leading SCOA club in the SCOA round.

So I think Lakeland go through as winners, and West Cumberland go through as runners up to a top 5 club from last year.

Re: YBT Qualifiers
NATO took a team to Hamsterley today for the NE round - trouble is no other club did
our juniors were not happy about that but did seem to enjoy their runs

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: YBT Qualifiers
EAOA had their round the previous week and the results were very close with SOS qualifying for the final:
SOS 889
NOR 887
SUFFOC 886
WAOC 472 (incomplete team)
Not long before we have to do it all again, as the YBT is moving earlier in the year in 2013. Qualifiers will be in spring with the final being the first weekend in July. It may be difficult for us to field a complete team on either of the dates as they are both the first weekends of the private school holidays, and we rely of some of the school kids for our yellow runners. Pity as we have enjoyed our excursions to the final for the last two years and it has been a great experience for our juniors.

What are our Competition/fixture schedulers trying to do ? Kill off another junior competition.

From the West Midlands round OD go through to the final as winners, with WCH also qualifying due to OD finishing second in last year's final.

The YHOA qualifier is at Ogden on 11th Nov.
Presumably AIRE v SYO with just one to go through, as neither were in the top 5 last year.

Re: YBT Qualifiers
Well Clive, the explanation I was given at last years final by I think it was Helen Errington, was that she & Junior Competitions wanted amongst other things to hold the event at a time of year that was warmer to enthuse the kids to turn out.
Thats the thing that stuck in my memory given it was a year ago.
Of course a July final comes with the problems of higher (& higher) vegetation . . . but then it is bl**dy cold standing around in assembly in December.

Re: YBT Qualifiers
Yes Rich
Have not particular view about the need to move the competition to the Spring/summer ~ If warmer times make it more attractive to participants that's fine.
But the actual dates selected for both the Qualifyer round and the Final seem to be a week after many schools break up for school holidays !
When boarding school kids get the chance to get home to their families they don't hang around ~ they are off. Many families with children at state as well as private schools choose to take holiday as soon as school ends.
This just seems to either daft or bl**dy minded on behalf of the powers that be. Perhaps they live on a different planet.

Sadly not; under rule 4.3.3 (http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/i ... rule_l.pdf), the "extra place" only applies if three or more complete teams are competing in the heat. As I understand, there were only two.

BOF organisers seem to be from another planet - EPOC are hosting their area's YBT round together with the Yorks Superleague at Ogden, Halifax on Nov 11th and BOF decide toput on a Community Orienteering Leaders course in Huddersfield (only 11 miles away) on the same day. If anyone had thought to check their own BOF fixture list, or even consult with any of the EPOC committee before choosing this date it would quickly have flagged this up as an unsuitable date. If the aim is set up local community coaching for school teachers at local authority level then probably a better way to understand orienteering and linking with the club would be to come along to a great event at Ogden and see the sport first hand. Just a walk round a yellow or orange with someone explaining/coaching the the basics of the sport with a bit of class room stuff later would have seemed to me a much better way to so things rather than being completely outwith the club. Its caused rumblings across the region as other clubs have asked why the clash as they have had people who would have been interested in attending.
