RIP level 1 regional championships

Having English regional championships for those who like that sort of thing seems like a reasonable idea...but insisting that they be Level A and making them central to the annual calendar as BOF tried to do (and now appears to be backing away from) was at best nostalgic and probably just silly.

Never mind that BOF set the SHIs to clash with the Southern Champs this year! Thereby taking away potential entries on the elite courses.

I really am most cross that an exciting looking thread on "level 1 regional championships" turns out to actually be about something as dull as "level A area championships". These level names are terribly important and shouldn't be treated in such cavalier fashion.

it would be much more sensible to make the default level for these events Level B - but give the option for the organisers to upgrade to Level A.

I tend to disagree: the area (not regional) championship idea could have worked well, if it had been properly implemented and promoted (where have I heard that before?), providing a logical competition structure.

But, yet again, it hasn't been, and to cap it all 'they' promptly go and undermine it all with something that really IS badly thought out.

Scotland will thrive as a national championship on good terrain.

Interesting to see what effect a direct clash with one of the new orienteering league events at Springtime in Shropshire will have (probably none at all).

Depends if the Scottish Relays is still part of the UK Relay League. There is still a UK Relay League, isn't there?

Typifies what BOF doesn't get - the Scottish Champs is almost always has the best terrain of any major event each year, due to being in Scotland. To decide to remove this suggests that quality of orienteering is not high up the "UK League" priorities.

I suppose SOA could host the Scottish Champs in Livingston every year..... but I think participant numbers would drop off after a while.
