SI "beep"

I was going to email sportident but I thought it would be quicker here....

Does anyone know why the "beep" in approx 25% of our units has become more of a quiet squeek?? Also any ideas how to fix it?? There is nothing wrong with the battery levels and the voltage looks OK so I am a bit at a loss.

I've had this too, I think it's usually been something up with the beeper, best to email/phone SI UK for an official answer though.

If you have BSF7 units you could try taking the base off and giving the beeper a shart tap. This has improved some of ours.

Except all the people who have moaned that they'd like a 2nd method of feedback for when they can't see the flash due to the sun.

Andy- agree with that. There are a smaller minority that think the beep gives the control away- you can't win!

Perhaps the next version of SI Dibbers could contain an option which tells the unit whether to bleep or not?

Hmmm. Given Emit's widespread unpopularity and failure to really break into the British market outside a few pockets, I'd not be so sure.

I'm a "moaner". In a sprint race where seconds count, uncertainty over whether you've punched or not is a signficant issue (and thats coming from an also ran!). The emit flashing light is worse than useless in anything other than dull conditions.

I'll admit this happened to me for the first time a couple of weeks ago when I was around 10m from a control which was rather unnecessarily hidden in some bracken, facing the wrong way and someone dibbed it. I'm not sure hwo far away you can hear this from, but I doubt its as much of a giveaway as a fellow competitor crashing through the undergrowth!

Are these the same people that "cough" when punching to try and dsguise the beep?

Oh and as far as the flash is concerned with EMIT, try using your spare hand behind the unit when it's a bright sunny day, easier to see the flash. (Or if using EMIT card with screens, look for the vertical bars on the screen as confirmation too)

Today is dull, I'm in a wood I don't see the emit flash but it does register on the brikke no damage done apart from the time taken to re-insert

which have a flashing LED (flashes for quite a while after registering), no beep and no backup pin punch.
