Re: CompassSport Cup and Trophy finals 2012
Running without my glasses proved very challenging and I think I added an extra 1km to my course thanks to overshooting and running left of controls. This is what I do if I close my eyes and try and walk in a straight line. At least being very shortsighted I can read the map but it isn't helpful when you cannot see the terrain. I reckoned 50m is the maximum distance I could see a control flag so had I orienteered into the circle I should have been OK. Last time I remember conditions so bad were at Simonside (British Champs) plus of course numerous mountain marathons. Hope it blows up again at the OMM in the Howgills as I will not be there for a change...Well done RR for staging an event under such difficult conditions. Lindsey shouldn't have tempted fate with her earlier posts.

I think a massive thanks should go out to the organisers for today's CSC Final. Whilst most of us just had to run in the wind and rain, they hand to stand about in it for hours on end.

Agree with Freefall - couldn't see well without my glasses and it was a real struggle. Can only echo mharky's comments - extremely well done to the organisers, officials and teams.

Agree with previous postings; a heroic effort by a small band of volunteers.
There seems to be a problem with the results unless there's a new rule that noone can score more points on Brown than the editor! I think there should be six scores on brown, not two.

Yes, brilliant organisation, fantastic helpers and great planning. Although you could say it was ridiculous to be out there in that weather, it was also strangely FUN. The kind of stupid thing I did when I was a kid. And that's something to be thankful to orienteering for.

Weather wasn't too bad at all unless you were running into the rain, I really enjoyed my run today!

I don't think those team scores are correct, unless I have got something wrong. For example, AIRE: They have 6 scorers on Blue Men (Large course, 6 max), with the lowest being 67 points. However they only have 2 scorers from Brown (Large course, 6 max), excluding points of 95, 93, 90, 87. The Brown seems to only have 2 scorers for any club instead of the maximum 6.

One question: is there such a thing as course length guidelines any more? I didn't mind running 7.8k with 300 climb, even in those conditions, but that does equate to a 10.8k race, which does sound rather long for a Blue course.

The Brown issue was introduced when we were trying to investigate the problem this afternoon and wasn't removed .

Congratulations to AIRE on winning and to LOC on being runners-up

Yes but it was a fast open area, brown won in 52 even seems fast for guidelines

Great event, many thanks to all involved in organising it.
Nice to see the sky clear and the sun come out at the end - we caught up with the rain driving back down the M6.
