Only 17 sleeps until the CompassSport Cup and Trophy finals take place in the beautiful Scottish Borders. Closing date for entries is this Sunday night and competitors who’s club didn’t qualify can still get a run in the Spectator Races which are being run on exactly the same courses. There’s also a TD5 contour-only course which people can run from noon onwards, after their normal course.
Kids are catered for with White and Yellow courses – EOD available but pre-entry would be helpful for numbers. And a special treat is the String Course designed by the mastermind behind several memorable 6-Day String courses in the past. We’re having a return of the Haggis People, 15 years on from their last outing at Breadalbane in 1997.
So who will win this year ? Pleased to see our near-ish neighbours Lakeland OC currently have the highest entry at 73, including a whole dose of juniors. ESOC and SYO have similar numbers, so that’ll be an interesting battle.
No entries yet from Southdowns, Airenteers or West Anglia in the Cup or Forth Valley, Pendle Forest, Interlopers, Swansea Bay and Sarum in the Trophy.

Havent heard anything further about the offer of camping onsite for this? WOuld it be possible to confirm/deny details? I'm kind of relying on camping the Sat night at present. Apologies if it has been - cant see anything obvious.

Yes, camping for tents, caravans and campervans available on the Satuday night at a cost of £2.50 per unit. Nothing fancy though - just a basic pitch close to the village hall which has water and toilets. No need to book but the final information will give more details and a site plan.

Re: CompassSport Cup and Trophy finals 2012
Just to keep everyone informed, the car parking field is a little soggy this morning after all the rain but it should still be OK for Sunday so long as we get the promised drier spell. Luckily the entrance/exit gate is tarred so you'll all get in OK, and the farmer is confident that the field will be fine by the weekend.
We do have contingency plans including hard standing, but this would require a slightly longer walk to Assembly and I suggest that everyone keeps an eye on the RR website (www.roxburghreivers.org.uk) for updates in case you need to allow a bit longer in the morning.

Thanks Lindsey.
I suspect quite a number will be travelling early Saturday, via Carlisle Urban.
Any chance of getting details relayed and a notice posted there if there is any significant change on Saturday morning ?

Yes, we can easily get signs posted at Carlisle, good idea. We expect to know the score by Friday afternoon.

If you do find yourself without an event - 39 miles away at Simonside is the NE Score Champs -our car park is hard standing so OK . The only issue we have is that should the cloud be where it was when I was there this morning (finalising the string course in the light of the rain) we might have to lose the controls on the top as they were well into the cloud.
(There are also White Yellow Orange and Light Green Courses in addition to the 1 hr and 45 min score events)

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

I'm pleased to report that the car parking on Sunday will be as originally planned, per the final information sheet.
We've had a cracking autumnal day today putting out tbars and setting up. One of those days that make a Planner's job worth all the effort. See you all on Sunday.

Today's weather wasn't so great, in fact it was grim, with the horizontal rain being painful. Thanks to the organising team, who had a tough job today.
Enjoyed the course though, which was a good physical and technical challenge.
Now just waiting for the team results...

It was wild but once wet I did not seem to notice it anymore perhaps because it was warm rain.
Super planning . It was one of those days when I realise how brilliant and fun orienteering is and other people getting cold and wet on a hillside did that for me so a massive thank you to all who made it possible.
