After 20 years Hindhead Common will be back in use for the SN Trophy on Sunday 25th November.

surely it was less than 20 years ago that it was last used?

I thought that too and have just dug out a Devil's Punchbowl map of the SLOW OK Nuts Trophy dated December '98.

Maybe Hindhead Common is separate from the Devil's Punchbowl.

Hindhead (SN) and the Punchbowl (SLOW) were separated by the A3 until a year ago but now together make a huge championship standard area - not that much intricate stuff but great scope for long legs. SLOW and SN have been known to speak to each other - occasionally (Macman?). Problems are 1) permissions - both being NT should be simpler but there would be environmental constraints that mean we'd never get a BOC or JK out of it - wrong time of year. 2) there isn't a decent parking and assembly for miles.

Being a relative novice with only a few years Orienteering experience, it will be a new SN area for me and I am looking forward to it.

We hope to have Fabian4 sorted out soon and we will advise as soon as possible.

Excellent race today.

Superb area and really good planning. Tough with the slippery slopes and steep climbs but really enjoyed the day - well worth a long drive!!

Must agree with Mikey. Glad we had early Starts, although we were still a long way down the parking road. Excellent course, physical, but definitely made you think. Very strange to be running along the old A3 that I've driven many times!!

Nice event. I've only one complaint and that is that the final details did not warn us of the non-IOF symbol shown on the map legend 'Highland cattle (subject to movement)' - yes, for those who went, have a look - a nice touch by the mapper. As it happens, I did see some I think but it was when I had run off the map anyway, so it didn't cause me to lose any (more) time .
