perhaps one day continental drift will leave the north of england and scottish borders sinking into the earhs magma and sheffield and edinburgh will drift together in perfect harmony. bitter rivalries will be forgotten and teh communities will meld together to become a hothouse of orienteering jizzom. then edinfield will become the playground of the orienteering world, merry racing over dales and through glens by day, then naked yards of ale by night as the two social cultures of the unis colide: drinking from shef and naked sirprises from the burgh.
but until that day, ROLL ON THE BUSA YA BUNCH A LOSERS!!!!!!

Well..
It appears to me that there isn't really a clear cut favorite between these two fine establishments. So i guess i'll just have to visit.
But at the moment Sheffield is the favourite, purely because all the posts from the 'burgh' seem a bit, well, weird.....

Long long ago, when applying to university, both Sheffield and Edinburgh (amongst others) offered me places to study the noble art of architecture at their fine respective university institutions. On visiting both, I quickly noted that one department was located near the top of a wobbly tower block (where my old man learnt his trade as a civil engineer as it happens), whilst the other, in a listed building in the heart of one of Europe's most important heritage sights. The latter also had a bonny wee mountainette slap bang in the middle, which seemed like a delightful venue for summer-time picnics.
Since returning to the fine sport of "O", I have been thrilled to discover that EUOC get bucket-loads of subsidies enabling frequent trips around the country - many up to the frozen north, which is proper bo - at minimal cost to my meagre income. As well as the "O"'ers of EUOC and INT, there is also an excellent community of hill/track/road runners as well as cyclists/triathletes etc (should that interest you) in the city of Edinburgh as a whole, with whom to train. In other words there are loads of people doing different things, so whatever it is you fancy doing, there'll be other people there to join you/kick your arse when you can't be bothered.
Oh yeah, and the boozers are open til 1, and the clubs til 3 up here, should you fancy getting properly lashed.
I'm sure Sheffield's lovely too, but I wouldn't really know.
