JK and BOC 2013
That's weird! How come the JK and BOC next year are being held within about 20 miles of each other?

Because that's where the best areas in the country are
Well, actually, its because we had a sensible rota but when associations dropped out it wasn't rejigged.

Re: JK and BOC 2013
I think the rota needs rebalancing a little.
It does not seem wise to me to have both "up north" one year and then both "down south" the next. If they counterbalanced each other a little better then people who do not want to travel long distances might at least be able to get to one each year, rather than both one year and neither the next (or vice versa).

Where were the "up north" races this year? Both JK and BOC were significant trips south for many of us.

Apologies Jon I did not mean to denigrate those who live in the fantastic areas of northern Scotland, and I appreciate even Dunkeld and Keswick are south for you.
My comments were made in the context of the "centre of gravity" of the UK population distribution as a whole.

...much as the 2013 JK and BOC will be rather a long way up north for some people. Perhaps we should ensure equilibrium by specifying that all major events must alternate between Dunnet Forest and Godolphin?

Re: JK and BOC 2013
Look, rather than lapsing into another very predictable north vs south game of rhetoric - I was actually genuinely surprised that the two major events of the calendar should be held 20 miles apart. I'd be asking the same question if that was the case in Cornwall or Sutherland
Aren't there committees to stop this sort of thing happening?
As far as I'm concerned travelling to the same part of the country on consecutive Bank Holidays 5 weeks apart lessens the attraction of attending one of them.

I don't know the local regional geography but surely the local clubs would have a manpower issue with two big events so close together, far less a committee...

Although close together they are being staged by two different regions, so completely different clubs will be involved.

I didn't mean to sound upset - I wasn't, just being pedantic

I think they are a bit further than 20 miles apart.
The JK is Reading/Newbury and BOC/BRC is in Dorking(or at least near to).
Closer to 50 or 60 miles apart
(but I haven't checked with the AA or Google maps, but I reckon on at least
1 hour motorway driving -- even if the M25 is "clear")

Mmm... fascinating, that changes the whole argument...

Don't be silly, it would be ridiculous to hold all major events west of Bristol...

and Eskdale is a shorter drive from London than from BigJon's house

Re: JK and BOC 2013
Sounds like a perfect time to pass on BOC and run TioMila - in 2013 it will only be 35km from Stockholm Arlanda ARN airport. 2014 will be Eksjo (2hrs 40 from NYO Skavsta), 2015 Falun/Borlange area, 2016 sodra Uppland (which will be equally convenient to get to as 2013), 2017 in Gothenburg so probably good from Landvetter or Save.
So 2013 really is the year to do TioMila and it is over the water from 2008s Roserbergs Slott TioMila area.

Re: JK and BOC 2013
Who do we write to to suggest the Beoc long trophy goes to the winner of the woc selection race long? As long as boc continues to clash with 10mila a victory in m/w21 is respected by nobody, the winner included. The woc selection races always have everyone giving everything. I don't know which race I'll be doing yet, but if make the long journey south it'll probably be to race my husband in m35. It'll probably be about right distance (british longs ought to be planned for simone to win in 75 mins if we really want to make progress internationally) and the standard of competition will be much higher.
