So, here's an idea, probably one that has been suggested before, but I've just had it.
Let's get rid of the British Champs races (all of them) and have a proper championship where you do say 4 races out of 6, 1 sprint, 1 middle and 1 long + 1 other. Points for places, no other "O" style mucking around with times etc.
Saves one region/club having to try to put on a stupidly big event in a less than championship area.
6 races to be chosen before the start of the year, 2 or 3 could be the JK.
Prizes presented at the last race.
There are already Regional champs, that could be chosen, they could choose to be a Middle or Long. There are also already some great Urban Sprints.
Saves organising 3 extra big scale events and would produce a real champion!

Dont be so silly!
It wouldnt produce a 'real' champion, unless it was 6 out of 6 races that counted - you need to be best out of ALL disciplines.
But better as it is, to have British Champion in each discipline - or just Long (proper orienteering!), and perhaps Sprint.
Although if as some have suggested, the only true champion is the M/W 21 Elite; (and its usually known who out of 2 or 3 entrants will win every time); as other age categories are seldom mentioned, and sadly Short course competitors seem to be seen as 'second rate', akin to the old 'B' classes.

...... because they choose not to run the Championship Course to run a shorter course simultaneously

Personally I would say that my year as M21B British 'Champion' (Achilty - tough course) was of little overall merit and I would apply the same criteria to being M45S (or whatever) British 'Champion'.

You missed an epic M21E. Just finishing had some 'overall merit' - 18 out of 57 retired.

Yeah. I think they also ought to get rid of all the different distances in track, and require them all to run, say, a 100m, 400m, 1500m and 10000m, and have just one Olympic champion.

The Triathlon World Champs is now based on a series of races, rather than just one.

A swim, a cycle race and a run.

No idea - I have no interest in golf. But they do have different types, e.g. matchplay, don't they?

Or how about having the British Champs at the end of the summer so they only clash with foreign champs (which you can't run both anyway) and only good areas can be used as the rubbish ones will be head high in bracken.
