WOC open meeting edinburgh Sept 1
Anyone know the times and locations for the WOC open meeting in Edinburgh next Saturday? I want to attend if possible to find out a bit more about who's doing what. I cant find any recent reference to it anywhere obvious.
Orienteering - its no walk in the park

ESOC Club Email 13th August 2012 wrote:A message from Hilary Quick : An open meeting will be held on Saturday 1st September, to discuss Development aspects of WOC2015 (World Orienteering Championships). All interested individuals are most welcome to attend. The objective will be to develop and refine a development plan for the event to maximise the opportunity that it presents. The meeting is open to all interested parties to encompass as many views and ideas as possible. The meeting will start with an introduction to the event vision and objectives at 15:00. It will be held at King’s Buildings, Edinburgh University – http://www.ed.ac.uk/maps/. It would be useful if you could indicate to me your intention to attend.
Did your club secretary not send you the above message from Hilary Quick? I do wonder how people will find the meeting though as the King's Buildings at Edinburgh University cover a large area.

It's in, er, my office: Room 2502 JCMB in Kings Buildings as advertised.
A WOC team athlete will be waiting to let you into the building, which would otherwise be locked.
There will also be a sprint orienteering course available.

Graeme - is your room going to be big enough for the dozens of keen people attending?

Any news on the meeting held at the weekend yet? I couldn't make it but would be keen to know what was discussed and if any interesting issues were raised.

What I heard from the non-confidential bit...
Agreement to go with the new WOC format (sprint relay, no qualifier).
Areas not announced.
Initial planning is team Steve Nicholson, Jon Hollingdale & me.
Lots of other volunteer roles still up for grabs!
Fantastic pre-WOC extravaganza planned in mid-October 2014, including an EUOC/AROS 50th anniversary "Bigger than big" weekend. Or similar.
Still to be decided what country its in. It might be the last big thing BOF ever does!

I thought the format hadn't been announced (Dave certainly avoided answering when Mharky asked about it) and was still being discussed?

E-mail received today from Kim Paterson, Moray's Sports Development Officer.....
this is a massive event for the North and in particular the Highlands and Moray. Maybe we can get everyone from Moray who volunteers at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 to get involved as a volunteer at the WOC in 2015 as well. Will put on my thinking cap to see if I can come up with any bright ideas that could work in conjunction with this world event.
I must have sounded like a stuck record at the meeting, but we've got to stop thinking like orienteers.
I don't recall anything about race formats either. The link that Roo put up is by no means comprehensive BTW - just the selective remnants of my memory after a long trip home. No doubt a full summary will follow from Hilary.
