Guildford Urban Race
It's just been pointed out to me that the Super Vet women are expected to run the same course as the Super vet men - and be expected to run 7kms. Am I being a whimp? Any one from GO shed any light on the matter. On the original details we were running a course down from teh men as expected. Am I being too hopeful that it is a typo

Re: Guildford Urban Race
7k seems a bit long for supervet women, especially if thats the straight line distance. Even if its the expeected running distance its a bit above ave I'd say,
Orienteering - its no walk in the park

Re: Guildford Urban Race
Well at least the 7 k seems to be the straight line distance but it is seems an unusual class combination. At Malvern I put the super vet women with the ultra vet men and women - as previously the supervets was the oldest class so the W55s+ would all have been running that course anyway. Some of the ultra vet women felt the course at 3.8 k was on the long side but then again I didn't want to be accused of patronising them as they had also complained that Edinburgh at 1.2k had been too short.

Re: Guildford Urban Race
It has now been changed to the next course down - a sensible 3.4kms, 5.2km distance!
No we should we have to run with men of the same age. We have always run with the Ultra Vets and been very happy with that. It means that the Ultra Vet Women run the same course, but they are scored separately and seem happy with that. They don't want a pathetic course of less than 2kms as at Edinburgh
. Thanks to AD for sorting things out!

Re: Guildford Urban Race
Having just completed the Guildford race followed by Basingstoke (Sunday) and Didcot (Monday) I would like to express a BIG THANK-YOU to all concerned for pulling together a top class extended weekend of Urban Orienteering. Maps, Courses, Organisation all first class - even the weather was (mostly) on the good side - a real winner of a Bank Holiday Weekend doing what the family enjoys doing best - Urban Orienteering - more please next year!

Re: Guildford Urban Race
I concur, a great way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend when most of the forests (at least in the SE) are unusable. As a bit of a sprint/urban fan/specialist I was really looking forward to this weekend only to be struck down with a chest infection earlier in the week forcing me to run slower than I would have liked. Others will moan that urban orienteering is too boring, or not proper orienteering - a perfectly valid personal opinion -but all the classic finish line discussions were taking place: route choices, over-or-round, not finding the control etc. Also a distinct lack of unfair routes, complaints about illegal short cuts etc, well done GO, BADO and TVOC. Same again next year?

Re: Guildford Urban Race
I could only get to 2 of the 3, but both were great events. Everything was perfectly fair and my 2 dead-end mistakes at Didcot were all of my own making.

haloite's short report wrote:...and then a couple of long legs .... finishing with a Sprint-style finish in the grounds of the University of Reading.
Now that's longer than your average 'long leg' - finishing at the University of Reading when the start was in Guildford
