ISSOM canopy query
Putting together a map to ISSOM 2007, I downloaded the BOF symbol set, but in use I thought the canopies looked odd. Investigation revealed that in the version of the BOF symbol set that I have, canopy outline is set to 0.14mm thickness, and colour 50% black (ie mid-grey). The IOF ISSOM 2007 standard decrees 0.07mm and solid black. Does anybody know why this should be so? I couldn't find an answer.

Re: ISSOM canopy query
I guess its a mistake. I use the OCAD defaults set (which also has mistakes).
Following the general ISSOM principle that clarity is everything, and that "Features that are not important for a competitor taking part in a sprint orienteering event should not be mapped" the canopy edge symbol can be omitted altogether when the "canopy" in question is a building cutthrough and the message you're trying to convey is "you can get through here".

If dustytoo is mapping the feature I think he is , it isn't a cut through more a building where the upper floors overhang the ground floor (good control sites underneath)
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: ISSOM canopy query
Thanks for that - I've had to map an awful lot of canopies (building overhangs, cut-throughs, railway arches, elevated roadways...) and with my eyesight, the grey edges looked rather fuzzy. The IOF-spec black outlines look much better!

Re: ISSOM canopy query
This (50% grey thicker border for canopies) appeared on the map for the St Alban's City Race at the end of April this year. I thought it actually improved the clarity quite a lot, making the canopies easier to spot against the buildings. Does anyone who ran in the St Alban's City Race have any comments about it, either positive or negative?
Stop talking, start running.
