Scott Fraser - Bronze at 10km Swedish Champs
Scott ran a fantastic 29.38 on the track tonight to take bronze in the Swedish Champs 10km. Puts him 7th in Britain this year over 10km. Top lad!

Fantastic!!
But, of course, his O-exploits are not "real sport"

Did he get to keep the medal - or did it go to 3rd Swede?

Now here's an idea - Mo Farah v Scott. Urban to give Mo a chance. But no jumping off bridges, Mo.

Re: Scott Fraser - Bronze at 10km Swedish Champs
Swedish Athletics Rules - you are eligible to win SM medals after 1 year of being registered (with personal number) in Sweden. It used to be two. So Bronze it is. That was on the Friday and he went to Sprint SM on Sat/Sun and finished 6th (2nd last year) although this year he was a little more tired
Orienteering Rules for SM will change next year however ruling OUT the majority of foreign participation. I expect numbers to decrease 20-25%. Anyone doing a foreign 'Championships' in any O discipline in the same calendar year will be unable to compete at SM. There is no 'compete but not be eligible' opportunity at SM (however the amount of money they will lose may make them change their minds...!) It is my understanding that a 'Championships' abroad also includes regional ones. So anyone doing the eg SWOA Champs, will be ineligible to compete at SM. The rule is utterly ridiculous, certainly unpoliceable and SOFTs knee jerk reaction to the debacle over Relay SM last year when a stack of top teams were axed a month after the event.
Stockholm 2012 M/W16/17s tour ran Night and Sprint SM (same weekend) this year. Together with having to pay a £30 ranking fee, the cost for entries for the weekend was £125! 3 O races. At least you got a meal with each. We'll see how long this new rule lasts...

So does that make GG the "Kevin Pieterson of Orienteering"? Certainly sounds like it.
Might not be quite as much dosh in China as in the IPL though.

Apols JEP - I was fed some 'flimsy' info about GG so have deleted that para. He is going to China with girlfriend who will run, but he will not and will be paying his own way as a consequence.

Perhaps someone who knows the Swedish scene better than I do can enlighten us as to why SOFT has such convoluted rules to keep people out of Swedish Championships - is it that they would rather that the Swedish Championships only be open to Swedes but EU law won't allow them to do that, so they are seeking alternative ways of achieving the same result?
It would be somewhat amusing if someone protests against the entire Swedish World Cup team next year on the grounds that they've run in an overseas championships (the Oceania ones).

Except of course, they're separate races.

So foreigners cant win the oceania champs.
The words "pot", "kettle" and "all black" spring to mind

The rule is not ridiculous.
It would be ridiculous if they said you had to be Swedish. They are just saying if you chose to run SM, you can only run SM races. There is nothing unfair about that. How can you be the resident of one country for middle but then resident of another country for long?
The BOF rule is far more ridiculous, but not even British elites care about BOC, let alone holidaying Swedes...

As someone who never has been and never will be an elite surely that is an issue - the BOC should have sufficient status to make it important to our elites some of whom have received support via BOF.
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg
