The first bulletin for WMOC2013 has been published. Thankfully, there is no reference to the WMG in Turin.

However, the fees(EUR) seem high when compared to WMOC2012.
Year - Registration - Sprint - Long - Total
2012 - 70 - 20 - 35 - 125
2013 - 120 - 25 - 45 - 190
What is the justification for a 50% increase in fees?

Wiggle I regret to say your comparison of 2012 to 2013 is meaningless. You need to compare with prices from Sydny 2009 and Canada 2005 i.e. in WMG years. The addition will be the WMG registration fee for which you will probably get a rucsac and a travel pass to go round Turin judging by previous years - not exactly VFM imho.

Re: WMOC2013
Madmike you were short changed with just a rucksack and travel pass. I also received a ballpoint pen and a small tube of toothpaste.
As I mention there is no reference to WMG in the bulletin. My impression is that FISO and WMG have gone their separate ways and WMOC2013 will not be part of the WMG. However, because of contract agreements between the IOF and the IMGA a fee will still have to be paid to the IMGA. That is why there is a 50% increase over 2012.
Can someone with better information please tell me that I'm talking rubbish!

Re: WMOC2013
Interesting wiggle. My impression is that FISO are doing the Sprint Q in Rovigo near Turin and then doing everything else out West - Therefore, I presumed Rovigo was a sop to WMG and they could then do their own thing- I could be wrong, it has happened before
.
Orienteering in Italy is normally very cheap so other than the WMG angle I can think of no reason for the high fees but they do look similar to the last 2 WMGs as I recollect.
FISO seems to be pretty well supported by CONI unlike BOF by UK sporting bodies so can't see a levy situation.
Of course this is Italy so there will be changes, followed by changes, followed by changes, with course planning completed at least 12-24 hours before the races start!

Re: WMOC2013
I have just done a trawl through the FISO news pages - and there is nothing at all on WMOC/WMG. I will keep monitoring.
However, FISO do report that the 2 IOF Event Advisors for WOC 2014 (a Swede and a Norwegian) have OK'd the selected areas.
Back to WMOC 2013 and WMG - the WMG site is still showing Orienteering as "da confirmare" i.e. TBC

Re: WMOC2013
It is abundantly clear that it has been foisted on them by the IOF. There was a slick sales team for teh event at this year's WMOC until you realised that not one of them had the first clue nwhat orienteering was about
Normally the flag is handed over to the next hosts after the closing ceremony and the new country makes a brief speech - this year no speech - not easy if you knopw nothing.
Moray 2013 clashes with it. I recommend boycotting the IOF/WMG fiasco and going to Scotland instead.

Re: WMOC2013
But for an 'unbiased' opinion, I am recommending WMOC 2013 in the magnificent beauty of the alpine Sestriere area, with probably much better weather, and an well organised event.
SO, i say boycott Moray 2013.

Moray 2013 clashes with it.
Last race at Moray is Saturday August 3rd
First race at WMOC is on Sunday August 4th
So, not a huge clash then ... and it's technically possible to do both, although it's less frantic to skip Moray Day 6 and go on to Turin instead. Give's a day's rest too!

Logo aside, Moray 2013 will be better in every way, except maybe World Masters medals being handed out.

Re: WMOC2013
Okay DJM maybe it's possible, but many people want the link with WMG broken.
The IOF must take a big hit in their income when it is in Australasia (which it usually is) so I cannot understand their attitude. Nothing will convince me that being a part of a commercially organised multi sports organisation that is far more focused towards participation than excellence will have the slightest influence on getting into the Olympics (which I understand to be the sole reason for the forced link).
I can confidently say that NO organiser of the games to date has been happy with the input and interference from WMG. I can see absolutely no benefit whatever.
I am just hoping that next year's event will be another low turn out masters despite being in Europe and that just maybe the IOF will consider that the link itself diminishes their levy income, not just the remoteness of most WMGs. Therefore I am not intending to go, and maybe others might feel the same.

On the other hand it would mean that your transport was waiting for you when you got back to Turin, wouldn't it?
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg
