Just to put the record straight, the IOF Foot-O Commission (responsible for WMOC) has not been involved in any of the political issues regarding WMOC 2013.

the WMG are certainly happening 2nd-11th August, the event calendar currently says (albeit with a tbc caveat) races will be 2nd - 8th

Greywolf - it maybe because WMG will, pretty much, organize the other sports themselves but will have to franchise O to FISO as they lack the ability to do it themselves and it is WMOC/WMG Orienteering in one. Don't know just speculating

There will need to be a series of MoUs and technical agreeements signed between the 2 bodies before anything is formally confirmed. Where would we be without la burocrazia italiana

I wonder if it's going to be like Sydney - Hefty entrance fees to the WMC and then additional fees for the orienteering?
Free travel perks in Sydney were useless for the orienteers with the main o event being held about 100 miles away!

Very similar methinks with the Sprint (Urban) in Turin and the classic Qs and finals out in the mountains

For DJM to say that the IOF had nothing to do with any political decisions defies belief. If fthe whole shenanigins of forcing the evnt on the Italians in conjunction with WMG is not political then I need to go back to school.

I was oh so hoping that the event would fail to materialise. Anyway I beleve I will boycot it despite my desire to run WMOC. As it seems fairly clear that no-one wanted to put it on I am not expecting it to be the best.

Eddie DJM's point is it was the Council not the Commission methinks - I don't think he is denying IOF involvement.

I fully agree with Nick's editorial.
Increasing participation is, in principle, a good thing. But we should be encouraging people to enjoy what we have to offer, rather than changing what we offer to bring in new people.

Pop out here Andypat, we don't have any of that electronic punching stuff most the time (I am getting back up to speed on pin punching now), most times the maps are printed on inkjet printers so whilst pre-printed.....; however, I can guarantee sunshine

I've still got a thumb injury from disentangling old pin punches from controls on Sunday. Probably got Tetanus to look forward to. Still the rain is good for the flowers eh!
