Showing orienteering graphics on video

Thinking ahead to WOC 2015 and the hordes of new people who are going to become aware of orienteering through the WOC publicity and who will be hungry for information about how to do it.
I'm looking at upping the provision of information and instruction available on video on the SOA youtube channel.

I'm encouraged by the number of views that "How to...?" videos seem to get even if they are relatively low budget.

Does any one have experience of adding/converting digital map/course graphics to video? (I should probably google "How to add....?" shouldnt I )

I'm thinking along fairly simple lines at the moment. eg adding a line of red dots to show progress along a route, or eg showing a white course, then morphing it into a yellow course to show the difference, that sort of thing. But interspersed with real video of people talking/running.

At present I dont have any budget at all although i'm working on it and wouldnt be averse to adding video editing software to it if it was useful.

Windows movie maker is free.

Think stop frame animation - have an image of your map, add some of your red dots, create a new image, add more dots take another image etc. These can be added to Movie maker and 'flipped' through quickly by changing transition times to create a moving image. Lots of tutorials on Youtube.
