If he lost a lens I'm impressed that he managed to stay that far up. If I lose one of mine my ability to navigate terrain is stuffed, presume he carried a spare and had to fiddle on trying to put it in (not that I ever do but I presume he's more organised).

My spare lenses were in the car, useful.

It happened on the long leg, the leading runners went completely the wrong way, I was with Halden et al, but had different gaffel, was leading a group to my gaffel with 300m to go and lost the lense. Couldn't read map whilst running, or see terrain, or see where to put my feet. Game over.

Always take spare lenses...

There is no concievable way I could insert a lens without a mirror and excellent backlighting. I am amazed anyone could put one in in the dark.

Lauenstein arrives at control ahead of Lundanes, Scotia has missed (or had a longer gaffle). Lauenstein stands and checks his map for route to next control, Lundanes stops and watches him, waiting for Lauenstein to make his move. No move. Lundanes heads off for next control, Lauenstein goes after him on same route cue discussion and mirth among the commentary team
