... and "virtual orienteering" which isn't virtual by any stretch of the imagination.

Re: Focus map extracts
I've read that "Future of Orienteering" article twice now, (and not just because of the beautiful prose: "however until further market insight is researched to ascertain how orienteering may target retirees they will not be added to the initial target markets"
) and AFAICS the page with the conclusions and future plan seems to have been omitted from my copy of the magazine

Re: Focus map extracts
I am very disappointed that my target segment is not considered to be a good investment.

I agree Ed! Keep singing the song. Happy faces enjoying the sport will do nicely. Good picture of an M20 on the front of the OZone section.

The current Focus is available as a 8mb download from the BOF website (after you've logged in) - on that basis why don't we do away with the paper copy? I'm sure for the few people who don't have internet access Clubs would see it as a service to print a copy and give it to them at events/activities.
(and yes 8mb on dial-up is a real pain)
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

You know after I wrote that I tried to download (to extract and send the report on our club juniors weekend at Kielder to a member in Afghanistan) and it didn't download at all - hyperlink isn't in place (yet?).

Re: Focus map extracts
This argument seems familiar, but in context of what's in Focus, IMHO Focus is a necessary (for some of you evil) if these big funded projects are to be successful. You've got to spread the news to ordinary members and get them enthusiastic etc and Focus is the best way available. A login/read from the BOF website focus is going to drop the readership by >95%. Even if there was a PDF pushed to everyones email (which BOF doesn't currently have the facility to do I think) then the readership would drop by half I think (which is why many clubs persist with printed newsletters).
The bonus is that in order to make us read the (important but boring) admin bits, there has to be some more interesting bits which is no doubt motivating for the majority who don't subscribe to CompassSport, though I think CompassSport is a more interesting read and people should definately subscribe.

Re: Focus map extracts
by the way, the biggest orienteering race in the world is happening right now. and we're covering it live. following this might be more fun than this.
