Re: WTOC 2012
Thanks
We are at the event centre now, it gets serious in 20 mins at first TL's meeting.
I must say though the whole country seems to have taken the GB WTOC team to heart, there are union jacks (union flags to us pedants) flying from buildings, cars, bunting ... or maybe there is some other event going on that I have missed.

Good luck to the British competitors, and also to the planners and organisers. May it all go swimmingly well.

I think "swimmingly" is a very inappropriate word - it is peeing down rain in NE Scotland today!

Re: WTOC 2012
I don't really understand TempO
but Ian Ditchfield came 7th today which seems to be pretty high up on the grand scheme of things, well done!

Re: WTOC 2012
Ian and Clive both had excellent "runs" today, 7th and 13th is very respectable in a version of the sport dominated by the younger brains.
TempO is straightforward to explain: you sit down are shown 6 kites and then the stopwatch starts when you are given (in this case) 3 maps. You have to say Alfa, Bravo, ... Foxtrot depending which one is correct or Zero/Zulu if you think none are. For those of you have done Trail-O then it is basically a Time Control but with Zs allowed and multiple problems timed continuously.
Model event tomorrow.

Re: WTOC 2012
You sit down -and in my case at one control the chair topples over because it sank into the mud- problem of being in the "public" event when a lot of people had already used the chair! (nothing to do with my weight Freefall heavier people than the increasingly slimline Andy had been through)
I was also surprised to notice that at one of the sites ALL the answers were "Z" needless to say that wasn't my answer.
Apart from being very wet quite an intellectual challenge

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: WTOC 2012
How did the model event go? I wasn't sure exactly who this was aimed at with it being on a Thursday. Was it mainly a practice run for the elites or was the hope that lots of UK orienteers would take the day off work and come along?

Re: WTOC 2012
It's a rehearsal of the procedures and practice over similar terrain, put on by the same planners and organisers, to give all competitors an equal idea of the challenges that may be faced. It was also a "a non-competitive opportunity to gain experience" for those new to Trail-O as explained at: http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/wtoc2012/public-events.

Re: WTOC 2012
I don't know if it was more pleasurable that the TempO because of the lower time pressure or the better weather, I just know it was!
Hopefully today will be as much fun despite competition pressure and I suspect harder challenges for "we the public".
(If the officials are reading please take this as thanks for their efforts)

Re: WTOC 2012
As I understand it those results are pending an Appeal about control no.1
The GBR selection for the Team Competition (which runs concurrent with Day 2, but has different time controls - one from each category and one other) is
John Crosby, Ian Ditchfield and John Kewley
