These results are very much provisional. Some of those mentioned above punched the finish and then re-entered the terrain to punch a control they missed.

With the disclaimer that I know nothing about the particular circumstances at this event: as a general principle, if you realise after punching the finish that you have missed a control then it is perfectly okay under BOF rules to go back, punch that control and redo the subsequent part of your course, so long as you haven't "completed download" first (although this not permitted under IOF rules).

So if thoshat registered a finish punch, then went back into the terrain to punch the last control and came back to the finish are ok, what about the crowd that might have been seen to have given unprompted information to the athlete running. Could they be disqualified? because that would take out half the field

This happened at JWOC 2009 and my understanding is that the offending athletes can be dq'd

I do remember the tannoy saying " such and such appears to have gone straight from the spectator control to the finish" - rather clearer than the crowd
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

MTBO was made 'non competative' before the start so there will not be any published results. I was 94 Andy Simpson 97.
The sprint was very good for the spectators. Every starter was interesting as about a third of them messed up the first control. Still don't know how Scot managed to be so fast.

Why was it noncompetitive? We have a couple of keen mtboers in the club. If you're going to have an event and take times why not have a competition? Were there just not enough emit widgets to have proper timing or something?

Why did so many male elites mispunch? It looks like too many for the following each other like lemmings explanation.

I belive it was a permissions issue but did not enquire too closely, just glad to be able to practice with an mtbo map and a nice course. You were fully timed and could check the times at the finish, but times will not be published. I had an early start and went out afterwards to check out some of the singletrack I had avoided during my ride but then looked up on Strava. The posibilities for gaining an advantage with Strava have since dawned on me...

Re: Scottish Champs & Jubilee5
I don't know the rules about punching the finish and then back out, someone on here seems to think that's ok by BOF rules but not by IOF rules. But from what I hear they wouldn't have noticed it without outside help from the crowd and /or speaker.
I think they should be selected for WOC if their times, past results etc seem to merit that but they ought to be dsq from the official results of this race, it affects other stuff like uk cup points. It seems a bit farcical when a huge crowd sees you F up and basically dsq yourself in front of their eyes but then the results stand.
It doesn't seem to be a very British thing to dsq people and especially not to dsq your favourite BOF covergirls but they need to make the decision based on the rules regarding punching the finish and re-entering the terrain and also the rules about receiving outside help. Doesn't seem fair to the people who did their own orienteering and went to all the right controls in the correct order + finish.
Select the sprint stars you want for WOC -there is a clause in the selection policy about looking at split times for example but don't be a wuss about DSQing from official results if the situation warrants that. It's just the principle of it.
...but obviously I don't have any idea about the actual rules and nor did I actually see what went down so I'm not sure why I'm weighing in on this debate really - mainly because it would get me a better official result and UK cup points I guess. ??? i really struggle to get those uk cup points when I don't do many uk races so a few bonus points here would be nice...

Re: Scottish Champs & Jubilee5
I'm not sure what the rules are but I remember Helen P and a Norweigian (?) girl accidently punching wrong last control and running down wrong finish and they were able to re-enter the area to punch the correct last control without being disqualified in a world cup race a few years ago. It cost them places and time but they still got a result... but maybe this was because it was a slightly different finish so techincally they hadn't left the area? Not entirely sure what happened yesterday though as wasn't there and not sure of the rules of these things.
Any results from today?

Yeah we never punched the finish and also we realised our mistake before anyone spoke to us so it's a different scenario. It was me and Rahel Friedrich from Switzerland. There was a bit of debate when we got back to the correct finish about what had happened and if someone had spoken to us before we realised we would have been DSQ. Neither of us really cared at the time because we'd run so badly anyway.
