Anyone else getting excited about the coming twin Peaks weekend?

Just looking at my old 2003 map has me flapping. IMO a better technical area than for the British, which though I enjoyed it was just mad fast. This will be a different kettle of whelks I suspect. Its just such a varied area terrain and visibility wise, wondering where i'll go wrong...to many possible options, probably will need a bigger magnifying glass than years ago.

I am. !n 2007 had only being doing orienteering for 18 months. Had a disaster, taking 160mins on day 1, finishing almost last. This remains my longest time out on a course.On day 2 Knocked 59 mins off day 1 time, so it looked like I learnt a big lesson. I expect to do much better this time! Bring it on.

fairly descent start list (looking at M21E anyway), and more forest bits to catch out people like me cocky after decent runs on the open fell at dalegarth!

I thought it was awesome! Beautiful terrain, great courses, good weather and everything ran smoothly!

Tremendous area. Today's blue course was a long middle distance - cleverly planned and tested both navigation and fitness. I found it very a real test which is what a British Champs should be. Surely such an area should be saved for the big competitions? I found Dalegarth much easier because it is.

excellent weekend, Twin Peaks is becoming pretty well established as one to pop in the diary early, with good terrain and a good standard of competition (even better if it weren't for EOC/Intercounties fell champs I imagine)

Question: why wasn't Sat a UKCup when the brambleicious midland champs was? I presume that 3 weekends in 5 (and 2 in the lakes alongside the british) was too congested.

Really enjoyed both days, thanks all in MDOC and some helpers from other clubs. The question of saving the area for big events has been raised within the club and we always return to the issue of parking. Mr Chaplin, the owner of the field that was used for parking this weekend, only has a limited space for parking, which would not be enough for a BOC. Unless other fields can be found in the valley then the only option would be bussing people in.

So let's raise the question. Would YOU be OK with being bussed in to a central point that gave access to this area for a bigger event?

This years BOC did use bussing and despite reservations of people beforehand (self included) it seemed to work pretty well. Having been to the events laid on alongside the WOC in France last year where we were bussed in for 3 days to get good areas, maybe this is something we need to get used to?

as I recall ORINGEN 2004 bused about 13 259 people on all 5 days and it all worked smoothly - interested to know what is the problem?

Not sure you can compare ORingen bussing to bussing in the UK, but it did work well at Dalegarth and competitors would probably do it for big events for an area like High Dam.

Yes - I would be happy to be bussed. There are probably other options. There is fairly easy access for those who do not mind a walk over a bridleway/path from the Haverthwaite area which has fields used for parking at the middle distance event a couple of years' back. The other point is that the Newby Bridge area is easily accessible from the M6. I am sure that in years gone by the area was accessed from the west with parking at YMCA Lakeside. Thank you for a total quality event.

Fantastic event, superb terrain, thanks to all officials and helpers.
Only real comment is I though that rather too much of my course on Saturday (8) was in the green. I can get forest fight / slow walk almost anywhere and it seemed a bit of a pity to have so much of it on an area as good as High Dam.

I dont see a problem with bussing in general providing its done efficiently. Did a lot of Oing in my schooldays by minibus. Where it does give pause for thought is when you have a young family, or a family where some of them arent orienteering. It does tend to make it a longer day, and you lose control to a certain extent of when you can come and go. This was one factor in us missing the British this year for sure.

I disagree. The green bits provided a real contrast to the faster open bits. I thought the courses were very well planned; the constant changes in terrain really kept you on your toes.

Thanks to MDOC. Well worth the expense. I'd be happy to pay even more more if bussing was deemed essential.

Definitely a candidate for best event of the year. Top notch area, with lots of variety of terrain. Well planned and contrasting courses. Excellent assembly area.

I also ran course 8 and disagree with KP. The use of the green area was a good way to break the rhythm - Run flat out over the open fell then be very careful to choose where to head into the green and maintain full map contact - then back out into the open on rough navigation. Yes, we had two blocks of 3 controls in the green area - but if you picked your way via the marshes and rides you were not actually in the green for very long. Certainly much more challenging that a loop of the open fell to the north.
