But seriously, the Lakes has some of the country's finest areas and the Lakes 5 is great way to enjoy them. Why come all the way up here to run round a town?

Same with SOW in Zermatt - when we wasted a day of legendary terrain to run amongst the tourists in the streets.

The Zermat day was IMO the best race of the whole year, and that in a week of fabulous orienteering - 6 contrasting days.

Oh I get that - but was referring to the proposal to remove 20% of the existing competition to make way. In 2010 it was an option - significantly taken up by only maybe a quarter of the Lakes 5 competitors.

I agree - almost, as I think Day 3 (on the edge of the glacier) was amazing. But definitely a vital part of one of the best weeks orienteering I've ever had, showing another face of the character of the area.

Can't agree - a fair number of those open fells are very pleasant, but pretty ordinary from an orienteering perspective.
But, having said that, Kendal in the summer (tourists) could be a somewhat different prospect to a quiet Bank Holiday Monday. (Echoes of parts of Venice!).
