Meanwhile, in Sweden...
Tio Mila 2011 Review (in Swedish): Men's Relay
It's very hard to put into words what the Tio Mila is like, and unless you've run before it's unlikely that you'd really understand. All across Sweden, and the rest of Scandinavia, orienteers have been gathering at their club huts weekly to go night training for this race.
Not only is Tio Mila a major goal for the majority of the world's elite, but for the thousands of high-standard club runners this is THE major goal of spring. It’s their chance to run for their club and be a part of something bigger. Anyone who has lived in Sweden will have witnessed the power of the Tio. Those on the fringes of the team will train all winter just for a chance to get the short, ungaffled day-leg in their first team.
The 10Mila is tough. The night dark, the courses long. The total relay length is 120km. The shortest leg is 7km with Long Night and last leg up at over 17km.
The bookies are calling Kalevan Rasti and Halden SK the favourites, and justifiably so, but anything can happen at night.

And for those of you who don't know what the Jukola is like, it's just like the Harvester except bigger

Svenska Spel must have become a charity looking at those odds on Ifk to win. I'll take those thanks very much.

Re: Tio Mila 2012
...which is nowhere near as good as the Scottish 8- or 11- person relays...
but the Tiomila final details promise "Woodland, mainly fur trees..." which should be worth watching out for
as I'm too lazy to plough through the start list... are there any GB teams? who are the Brits running for?

Re: Tio Mila 2012
Greetings from the TioMila Press Tent.
Charlotte Watson running last leg for Ravinen 1
Ruth King 1st leg for Ravinen 4, handing over to her Mum, Christine King - Christine is D60 so there is no excuse for all you non-elites not to be here rather than some Lakes race
Tessa Hill is here but unsure of leg - she ran the Silva League Sprint (the event series formerly known as Elitserien), yesterday.
Also 2nd D18E3 yesterday was Sarah Hale, Stans daughter, running for a OK Kare team no doubt.
Kris Jones is running for Lillomarka 1st leg
The sun is shining but it is blustery.
Going back to yesterdays Sprint - Scott Fraser - Britains No1 - the legend - takes the win ahead of a stack of Swedish talent - Lysell, Holmberg, Bergman, leandersson plus Kyburz, Khramov, Muller, Bloch, Kaas .... It was indeed pretty poor, Per Forsbergs commentary paying little attention to Scott and just harping on about the Swedes and how great they are, won this, medal that, certainly going to win, oh, too late again, but now X has a very good chance to win, oh, no, he is too slow....oh, and he seems to have mis-punched, blardy blardy blah....

Per Forsberg is coming to the Scottish Champs - so chance to get your own back by helping on commentary and gently reminding him of this!

Those Fur trees will be the ones in the Carniverous Forest? Our eldest, several years ago now, referred to avoiding a block of carniverous forest in Whinlatter - meaning coniferous. Surprisingly he passed his English exam and not surprisingly is now focussing on maths and sciences.
