Closed and open clubs

While on the thread of this individual moving to a club 180 miles away, just a small question. As he is now registered in two different regions, which region is he now a member of as this will have eligibility issues for the JIRCS? (Junior Inter-Regional Championships)

He is only registered in one region, YHOA. I'm pretty sure BAOC does not have a regional affinity. Whether residency in region would qualify for eligibilty for that squad I do not know. Others may.

If you try to join BAOC (or RAFO) through the BOF website you are allowed to pick which region you register with - although i'm not sure if you join as part of a Family membership that individual family members can register with different regions
If however you join one of the alumni clubs: AROS, JOK, SPOOK, etc, the system automatically allocates you to a particular region (SOA, SCOA, YHOA) regardless of where you live...which suggests that someone at BOF needs alumni clubs explained to them...

I wonder how the SCOA Junior Squad feel about this since presumably he's been training with them rather than the YHOA Squad?

BAOC are registered in SCOA. YHOA shouldn't get their hopes up.

if anyone thinks that SYO or YHOA have been going round trying to entice juniors to join them so that they can win more prizes then they are just wrong. If a junior does ask to join the club then there aren't really any grounds for saying "No", as we have several adult members who do not live locally. But we do not go around like the Pied Piper attempting to lure children away from the bosoms of their families or local clubs.

Would affiliations of alumni closed clubs matter for individual adults? I can't think of any competitions off the top of my head. AROS is affiliated to Scotland because that's where EUOC is and they help out EUOC when possible/where required which is almost always going to be in Scotland. Therefore it makes sense to be kept informed with SOA stuff.

And shouldn't juniors running at JIRCS be running for the region in which they live? They shouldn't have the issue of not having any other juniors in the team because it's a much bigger area and it's only a one off competition. Can you be a member of a regional squad but an open and closed club in another region?

What is wrong with a 16 year old wanting to join another club to gain valuable relay experience?????

Yes he was getting experience running on Men's Shorts relay courses etc but this wasn't the experience he wanted. He wanted experience with a competitive team to prepare him for future events e.g. JWOC. He couldn't get this from running in a team that wasn't competitive. Being in a competitive relay team means you get the experience of leading from the front or taking over a leg in the lead or 2nd and chasing down the leader. He also wanted to benefit from coaching from a club that could provide him with more experience.

I don't think you have any right to drag a 16 year old boy into this and it obviously proves you have something personal against him.
