Have many people heard of sportScotland's big new initiative to create community sports hubs around Scotland? Moray have recently opened 2 of them, and a third is about to come on line next weekend at Cooper Park, Elgin. Depending on the location, sports hubs can be excellent facilities to promote orienteering.
The idea is that the hub (some kind of public building with sports facilities nearby) acts as a base for various sports clubs and provides a focus for sport in the local community. More info here http://www.sportscotland.org.uk/ChannelNavigation/Topics/TopicNavigation/Community+sport/Community+sport+hubs/What+is+a+community+sport+hub/
Moravian have produced maps of areas adjacent to our 2 sports hubs (Fochabers - Milnes High School & Miltonduff Nr Elgin). The orienteering taster we ran when the Fochabers hub opened last month was a success and we're involved with the Elgin launch on 29th April where the surrounding park is already mapped.
There's serious money going in to this. Moray Council are paying for the printing of the O maps for the event; we're benefiting from a big poster campaign by the local sports council and a lot of local press interest http://www.forrescyclingclub.co.uk/community-sports-hub-cooper-park-elgin/ (nb it's 4MB) . It's proved to be a good opportunity to link with the local running club and JogScotland group who are both holding sessions co-located with Moravian. Info is on the Moravian web site http://www.moravianorienteering.org/events/cooper-park-elgin-elgin-sports-hub-launch-orienteering-taster-event-sun-29-apr NB - WOC 2015 embargo rules apply.
Anyone needing more info about sports hubs in their area should contact their local authority's sports development dept.

Pity the website doesn't tell you where they can be found.

We've been able to find out about this locally via the Council website. No idea how much use it can/will be for us but worth a go thanks SF.

SARUM belong to the Salisbury Hub club which provides indoor facilities. We've just mapped the area around the building - it's at a cricket/hockey/tennis site - and organised an open event for all comers
